PLAYMOBIL DIORAMA THE MAD ON PLAYMOBIL BASEMENT II

Here you have a second post of dioramas that have not seen the light yet.

Aquí tienes una segunda publicación de dioramas que aún no han visto la luz.

We started with Vercingetorix and his surrender to Julius Caesar after the siege of Alesia. Within the Roman cycle, we planned to pay homage to the campaign in Gaul. Our central character would be Vercingetorix and we try to make a recreation of his surrender to Julius Caesar.

Comenzamos con Vercingetorix y su rendición a Julio César después del asedio de Alesia. Dentro del ciclo romano, planeamos rendir homenaje a la campaña en la Galia. Nuestro personaje central sería Vercingetorix y tratamos de recrear su rendición a Julio César.

There was also a place to recreate our druid preparing a "magic potion"...

También hubo lugar para recrear a nuestro druida preparando una "poción mágica".... 

Another subject that we were looking at with the fabrics and that we have not finished finishing testing is the snowy landscape.

Otro tema que estábamos viendo con las telas y que no hemos terminado de terminar las pruebas son los paisajes nevados.

Playmobil's catalog of animals and plants is huge. It is unrivaled, in my opinion. Not even Schleich, who beats him on animals, but does not reach him on rocks, trees, and other elements of nature. It is a pleasure for us to play with these pieces. So much so that we went back to prehistory to see how this decoration looked…

El catálogo de animales y plantas de Playmobil es inmenso. No tiene rival, en mi opinión. Ni siquiera Schleich, que le gana en animales, pero no le alcanza en rocas, árboles y demás elementos de la naturaleza.  Para nosotros en un placer jugar con estas piezas. Tanto que  nos fuimos a la prehistoria para ver cómo quedaba este decorado….

And at a time we arrived in prehistory, we also tried to set up a small refuge for our hunter-gatherers.

Y una vez en la prehistoria, también probamos a montar un pequeño refugio para nuestros cazadores recolectores.

PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM CELTIC CHARIOT (II)

Our adventure with the epoxy putty is being very productive this year. As they were experiments that we did not know very well how they would end, we ventured on several fronts. We had previously tried a version of a Gallic chariot that we introduced in another post and we wanted to make a more sophisticated version without to make a complicated work. The pieces that we have used are all available in the DS and correspond mainly to the Egyptian chariot. For the base and the sides, we have used as pieces the new wooden cage of the Super 4 (ref 9006). For the effect of the wicker, we have resorted to a plastic tablecloth of the one dollar shop.

Nuestra aventura este año con la masilla está siendo muy productiva. Como eran experimentos que no sabíamos muy bien cómo terminarían, nos aventuramos en varios frentes. Habíamos probado anteriormente con una versión de carro galo que ya os presentamos en otra entrada y queríamos hacer una versión más sofisticada sin tener que complicarnos mucho la vida. Las piezas que hemos utilizado están todas disponibles en el DS y corresponden principalmente al carro egipcio. Para la base y los laterales hemos utilizado como piezas la nueva jaula de madera de los Super 4 (ref. 9006). Para el efecto del mimbre hemos recurrido a un mantel de plástico de los chinos (1 euro).  

The final appearance we have homogenized with a light brown coat of paint for the structure and dark brown for the saddles. We have changed the paint to one that we believe has a much better finish than Montana 94. It is the brand MOLOTOW, which are available in this direction.

El aspecto final lo hemos homogeneizado con una mano de pintura marrón claro para la estructura y marrón oscuro para las monturas. Hemos cambiado de pintura a una que creemos que tiene mucho mejor acabado que las de Montana 94. Se trata de la marca MOLOTOW, que están disponibles en esta dirección. 

The result seems good, is fully playable, and allows us to have a unique piece in a very affordable way. I think it could be improved a lot with something more practice.

El resultado final nos parece bueno, es totalmente jugable, y nos permite tener una pieza singular de una manera muy asequible. Creo que se podría mejorar bastante con algo más de práctica.

For this occasion, we have chosen to accompany it to our personalization of Queen Boudica, who wears a Playstickers shield. The driver of the chariot wears a custom helmet also with putty and a little sandpaper.

Para esta ocasión, hemos elegido para acompañarlo a nuestra personalización de Boudica, que lleva un escudo de Playstickers. El conductor del carro lleva un casco personalizado también con masilla y un poco de lija.

PLAYMOBIL DIORAMA ROMAN PORT

We started a new series of dioramas that have the maritime world as a common ground. Playmobil's relationship with vehicles is long, and especially with boats. His pirate ship is a mythical reference for collectors and his subsequent revisions have always been well received. The Viking ship, the Egyptian ship, the Roman ship, the ark of Noah... even a vacation cruise. Playmobil has not stopped surprising us. It has given us a lot of options to customize and create boats with which to complete our adventures. Our Norman ship or our Viking ships are very valuable elements in our dioramas.
To review our creations and expand our dioramas further we decided to take a tour of what would be the ports in which these ships could arrive, making a small series of posts and, in some cases, encouraging us to create some new figures. There will be no great news because it is an exercise of pure fun. We only will go chronologically to some scenes of periods that we have visited previously.

Empezamos una nueva serie de entradas de dioramas que tienen como nexo común el mundo marítimo. La relación de Playmobil con los vehículos es larga, y especialmente con los barcos. Su barco pirata es una referencia mítica para los coleccionistas y sus revisiones posteriores siempre han tenido buena acogida. El barco vikingo, el barco egipcio, el barco romano, el arca de Noé… hasta un crucero de vacaciones. Playmobil no ha dejado de sorprendernos.  A nosotros nos ha dado mucho juego para personalizar y crear barcos con los que completar nuestras aventuras. Nuestro barco normando o nuestros barcos vikingos son elementos muy valiosos en nuestros dioramas.
Para repasar nuestras creaciones y ampliar algo más nuestros escenarios decidimos dar una vuelta por lo que serían los puertos en los que esos barcos podrían recalar, haciendo una pequeña serie de entradas y, en algún caso, animándonos a crear algunas figuras nuevas. No habrá grandes novedades, pues se trata de un ejercicio de divertimento puro.  Vamos tan solo a recorrer cronológicamente algunos escenarios de periodos que ya hemos visitado con anterioridad.

We start with the recreation of a Roman port, to which an important Roman senator comes to give news to the victorious Roman general Julius Caesar.

Comenzamos nuestras entradas con la recreación de un puerto romano, al que un importante senador romano viene a dar novedades al victorioso general romano Julio Cesar.

The difficulty was big because giving an impression to the background of the diorama of a Roman city is not easy. We have superimposed several buildings to give a certain air of continuity to the buildings and a dock has been raised with the help of some mats. This last resource we have used in the rest of dioramas and has been of great help to be able to do the different heights in our ports. We have made what we could.

La dificultad era mucha, pues dar una sensación al fondo del diorama de una ciudad romana no es nada fácil. Hemos superpuesto varios edificios para dar cierto aire de continuidad a las construcciones y se ha levantado un muelle con la ayuda de unas colchonetas. Éste último recurso lo hemos utilizado en el resto de dioramas y ha sido de gran ayuda para poder hacer las diferentes alturas en nuestros puertos. Hemos hecho lo que hemos podido.

The diorama is simple, we have modified somewhat the structure of our Roman buildings of the Insula and the Ludus and we have dared with a small lighthouse. For the characters, we have thrown away everything we had available.

El diorama es sencillo, hemos modificado algo la estructura de nuestros edificios romanos de la Insula y el Ludus y nos hemos atrevido con un pequeño faro. Para los personajes, hemos tirado de todo lo que teníamos disponible.

The scene shows the moment of the arrival of the ship. Our general is waiting for to give the welcome, accompanied by his guards and with the streets cordoned off by his legionaries. The expectant crowd gathers curious not to miss the detail of the event. The streets have been cut and the vehicle traffic has stopped ...

La escena recrea el momento de la llegada del barco. Nuestro general espera para dar el recibimiento, acompañado de su escolta y con las calles acordonadas por los legionarios. La multitud expectante se agolpa curiosa para no perderse detalle del acontecimiento. Las calles han sido cortadas y se ha detenido el tráfico de vehículos...

PLAYMOBIL DIORAMA BATTLE OF THE TEUTOBURG FOREST

You had invited to us to do some battle scene within the Roman cycle. We can not aspire to recreate anything that supposes putting a big Roman formation in all its splendor. We just do not have enough Romans, that it's the problem of having a few of everything. However, we thought that we could recreate something that could be fairly decent without having to call to a "mass recruitment".

Nos habíais sugerido hacer alguna escena de batalla dentro del ciclo romano. No podemos aspirar a recrear nada que suponga poner a una formación romana en todo su esplendor. Simplemente no tenemos suficientes romanos, es el problema de darle a todo un poco. No obstante, pensamos que podíamos recrear algo que pudiera quedar medianamente digno sin tener que recurrir a un “reclutamiento masivo”.

The Battle of the Teutoburg Forest is one of the most famous defeats of the imperial era. Arminius is responsible for such a disaster, a Querusci commander raised in Rome, who managed to annihilate three Roman legions directing them to an ambush. The Romans accustomed to marching along the roads and fighting in open fields went into the lion's den thinking that they were taking by a shortcut. Once inside the forest, they had to march in a long narrow line, which was attacked by both flanks without the possibility of applying their combat techniques. The Germanics, who had been waiting for so long, had no mercy.

La batalla del bosque de Teutoburgo es uno de las derrotas más sonadas de la época imperial. El responsable de tal desastre es Arminio, un caudillo querusco criado en Roma, que consiguió aniquilar tres legiones romanas dirigiéndolas a una emboscada. Los romanos acostumbrados a marchar por las calzadas y luchar en campo abierto se metieron en la boca del lobo pensando que los llevaban por un atajo. Una vez dentro del bosque, tuvieron que marchar en una larga y estrecha fila, que fue atacada por ambos flancos sin posibilidad de aplicar sus técnicas de combate. Los germanos, que les tenían muchas ganas, no tuvieron piedad.

We have tried to capture the tension of the moment. Surprised legionaires have broken their ranks and small groups of soldiers have formed in the few clearings in the forest. Among the trees, Germanic warriors suddenly appear, whose cries frighten and disconcert even more the legionaries, who have grouped themselves around their banner. It is the defense of their last stand.

Hemos intentado captar la tensión del momento. Las legiones sorprendidas han roto sus filas y se han formado pequeños grupos de soldados agrupados en los pocos claros que hay en el bosque. De entre los arboles aparecen subitamente guerreros germanos cuyos gritos atemorizan y desconciertan aún más a los legionarios, que se han agrupado en torno a su estandarte. Es la defensa de su última posición.

To get the effect of the different heights, we have again resorted to cushions and mats. The plastic plate of the center serves us so that the figures remain standing between so much mess, forming the main scene. The vegetation placed in different heights tries to create the effect of the leafy and wild forest. The figures are close together to give that feeling of melee.

Para conseguir el efecto de las diferentes alturas, otra vez hemos recurrido a los cojines y colchonetas. La plancha de plástico del centro nos sirve para que las figuras se queden en pie entre tanto lío, formando la escena principal. La vegetación colocada en diferentes alturas intenta crear el efecto del bosque frondoso y salvaje. Las figuras están muy juntas para dar esa sensación de melé.

Our Gallic warriors today have become Germanic and they have made us the solution. Even our Druid is watching the battle.

Nuestros guerreros galos hoy se han vuelto germanos y nos han hecho el apaño. Hasta el druida está pendiente de la batalla.

Here we also show you a homemade artistic interpretation that my son has made and that has served as inspiration.

Aquí os dejamos también una interpretación artística casera que ha hecho mi hijo y que nos ha servido como inspiración.

The episode of Arminius and the Teutoburg forest has been very used and distorted by nationalism. For us it only has the historical interest, and suggests a surprising connection with a key figure in Germanic mythology: Sigurd and the treasure of the Nibelungen. But that is different story and it will be the subject of another post in the next future.

El episodio de Arminio y el bosque Teutoburgo ha sido muy manoseado y distorsionado por el nacionalismo. Para nosotros solamente tiene el intéres histórico, y nos sugiere una conexión sorprendente con una figura clave en la mitología germana: Sigfrido y el tesoro de los nibelungos. Pero eso es otra historia y será el contenido de otra entrada en el futuro.
