Para celebrar nuestro record de visitas, hemos estado trabajando en un pequeño proyecto que os presentamos ahora y que no es más que una pequeña prueba utilizando un gestor de documentos y catálogos gratuito que queríamos probar: ISSUU

Nos hemos atrevido a hacer este cuaderno con algunas cosas interesantes sobre los vikingos “MOP focus on Viking times” y del que hemos tomado “prestadas” algunas magníficas imágenes de nuestros ilustradores preferidos. También encontrareis algunas fotos de nuestras personalizaciones Playmobil. Esperamos que os guste y os sirva, a aquellos que estéis pensando también en editar un documento. Gracias.

To celebrate our 200.000 visits, we now are introducing to you a small project that we have. It is just a small test using a free document manager and catalogs that we wanted to try: ISSUU

We have dared to make this mini guide notebook with some interesting things about the Vikings "MOP focus on Viking times" and from which we have borrowed some magnificent images from our favorite illustrators. You also find some our Viking Playmobil custom figures and dioramas. We hope you like it and serve you, to those who are also thinking about editing a document. Thank you.

MAD ON PLAYMOBIL - 200.000 VISITS!!!

¡Otro reto logrado!, y en mucho menos tiempo del que pensábamos. Nos han ayudado mucho nuestros nuevos lectores de EE.UU, Méjico y Rusia, que cada vez generan más tráfico de visitas a nuestras entradas. ¡Muchas gracias! Y a todos nuestros fieles lectores que nos acompañan, también MUCHAS GRACIAS. Sin todos vosotros sería imposible. Another challenge accomplished!, and in much less time than we thought. We have been greatly helped by our new readers from the US, Mexico and Russia, who are increasingly generating more visits to our posts. Thank you very much! And to all our faithful readers who accompany us, thank you too!. Without all of you it would be impossible. Viewing posts writed less than two months and more than a thousand visits fills us with pride and encourages us to keep growing.

There are many ideas that come to mind, we would love to make suggestions on both the content (customs, dioramas, themes…) and the continent (new looks, new ideas…)  and we appreciate any help to improve this little blog, which has no more aim than having fun. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

PLAYMOBIL DIORAMA - VIKING RAIDERS (II)

Aquí traemos una nueva escenificación de la vida en tiempos de los vikingos. Los vikingos solían tocar tierra periódicamente en sus viajes, bien para hacer algún tipo de incursión, bien para abastecerse de comida o mercancías. En esta ocasión no tenemos muy claro lo que ha pasado.

En un primer momento, pensamos que se trataba de la vuelta de un ataque, del que traen como botín un par de esclavos, un monje, un buey y un caballo. No es mucho el botín, pero será suficiente para tener carne para comer y mercancía para cambiar en algún puerto. El barco aguarda cerca de la orilla para embarcar la carga.

También podría tratarse de un encuentro entre vikingos. El barco se ha acercado a la costa, sabedores que está habitada por tratantes de esclavos que siempre tienen mercancía para ofrecer. Algunos vikingos esperan en la playa la llegada de sus colegas, que han avistado el barco cerca de la costa.

Las dos historias nos encantan, y nos han  servido para seguir experimentando con nuestras pruebas y dioramas de Playmobil. El reto estaba en conseguir el efecto de la costa abierta desde la tierra. No ha sido fácil simular el mar en cierta calma, aunque con algunas olas y la línea del horizonte. El efecto nos gusta y seguiremos intentando mejorar. También queríamos romper un poco la simetría de la imagen y conseguir un efecto de gran tamaño con pocos elementos. El poliestireno extruido ayuda bastante. ¿Lo logramos?

En el diorama, igualmente hemos querido incluir algunos elementos nuevos con los que ya contamos y que aún no habían sido presentados en el blog. Piezas como las que ya habéis comentado con nosotros en otras entradas de la nueva serie de los Super 4 (ref. 9006) o alguna otra que hemos modificado, conseguido o incluido gracias también a las sugerencias de nuestros lectores. ¿Qué os parece?

Here we come with a new interpretation of life in Viking times using Playmobil figures. The Vikings used to arrived at shore periodically on their travels, either to make some raids, or to stock up on food or merchandise. This time we are not very clear what has happened.

At first sight, we thought they were returning of a raid, they only  found a pair of slaves, a monk, an ox and a horse. There is not much booty, but it will be enough to have meat to eat and merchandise to change in some port. The ship waits near the shore to board the cargo.

It could also be a meeting between Vikings. The ship has approached the coast, knowing that it is inhabited by slave traders who always have merchandise to offer. Some Vikings wait on the beach for the arrival of their colleagues, who have sighted the ship near the coast.

Both stories we love, and they have served us to continue experimenting with our Playmobil tests and dioramas. The challenge was to get the effect of the coast open from the ground. It has not been easy to simulate the sea in a certain calm, although with some waves and the line of the horizon. We like the effect and we will continue trying to improve it. We also wanted to break the symmetry of the image a bit and achieve a large effect with few elements. The extruded polystyrene helps a lot. We did it?


In the diorama, we have also wanted to include some new elements that we already have and that have not yet been presented in the blog. Parts such as those that you have already commented with us in other entries of the new series of Super 4 (ref 9006) or some other that we have modified, obtained or included thanks also to the suggestions of our readers. What do you think?

PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM – VIKING AND NORMAN BODIES

La tercera generación de cuerpos personalizados está alcanzando ya un nivel aceptable y aunque seguimos cometiendo errores y fallos, estamos muy contentos con los resultados. Aquí están dos figuras que hemos terminado con el torso alargado. Aunque empezamos con los vikingos, nos parece que quedan muy bien para nuestros soldados normandos. Los cuerpos están hechos con resina de dos componentes de FEROCA, que hemos lijado posteriormente hasta encontrar el acabado adecuado. La pintura es de MONTANA 94 que tiene una variedad de colores estupenda a unos precios muy razonables.

Por supuesto no podemos olvidar que las figuras ganan mucho con el escudo impreso en 3D en dos colores de PLAYMOLOOK, un accesorio que nos encanta y que tenéis ya disponible para todo el que lo quiera en varias versiones.

Nos queda experimentar el tema de la textura, los moldes (que dejamos como tarea pendiente para el verano) y algún curso de escultura con masilla, que nos vendría bastante bien. Hay otros cuerpos alternativos que hemos probado y que os presentaremos en breve dentro de otras entradas. Our third generation of bodies is already reaching an acceptable level and although we continue making mistakes and failures, we are very happy with the results. Here are two figures that we have finished with the custom long torso. Although we started with the Vikings, we think they look very good for our Norman soldiers. The bodies are made with FEROCA epoxy resin, that we have sanded later until finding the suitable finish. The painting is from MONTANA 94 which has a great variety of colors at very reasonable prices.

Of course, we can not forget that the figures win a lot with the two tone custom 3D knite shield of PLAYMOLOOK, an accessory that we love and that you have available to anyone who wants it in several versions.

Now, we have to experiment with the texture, the molds (which we leave as a task for the summer) and some sculpture course with putty, which it could do us quite well. There are other alternative bodies that we have tested and that we will introduce to you soon in next post. Many thanks to all who have contributed with your ideas and suggestions to achieve it. REVIEW – THE LAST KINGDOM SEASON 2

We were looking forward to watch the season 2 of the TV series inspired by the Bernard Cornwell series of books "Saxons, Vikings and Normans", which is being produced by the BBC. The series has been released in USA and UK, although there are already some chapters available in Spanish, if you look for it with interest...

Although the character of Uthred of Bebbanburg does not resemble the one my mind created when I read the first novel, I must confess that it is one of the few series that I wanted to watch, especially after the disappointment I had with the series "Vikings" season 3. I must to give it a try again, whatever happens after Ragnar Lothbrok's death.

What I like most about the series is that its characters are quite believable and have a good atmosphere, although I prefer the books. I hope you enjoy it, there is plenty of Saxons and Vikings...

THE LAST KINGDOM

Estábamos deseando ver la segunda entrega de las serie de TV inspirada en la serie de libros de Bernard Cornwell “Sajones, vikingos y normandos”, que está siendo producida por la BBC. La serie ha sido estrenada en EE.UU. y Reino Unido, aunque ya hay algunos capítulos disponibles en castellano, si buscáis con interés…

Aunque el personaje de Uthred no se parece al que mi mente creó cuando leí la primera novela, he de confesar que es una de las pocas series que me apetecía ver, sobre todo después de la decepción que tuve con la serie “Vikings” y su temporada 3. Puede que tenga que darle una oportunidad, a lo que acontezca después de la muerte de Ragnar Lothbrok. 

Lo que más me gusta de la serie es que sus personajes son bastante creíbles y tiene una buena ambientación, aunque me sigo quedando con las novelas. Espero que disfrutéis, está llena de sajones y vikingos… 

REVIEW – LIFE IN VIKING TIMES

Another Viking book for young readers, but it can also be an interesting resource for seniors if they want to get ideas for their dioramas. Although it is out of print, it is also available at a good price or even free, if you look for it in your Municipal Library. Their authors are ANNE JONAS and REMI SAILLARD. There is also one edition about the Gauls, another one about the Cromagnon and another one about gladiators. I think the original edition is in French, we have not found an edition in English. We hope you find it interesting.

Otro libro de vikingos para el público infantil, pero que también puede ser un recurso interesante para los mayores si quieren sacar ideas para sus dioramas. Aunque está descatalogado, también se encuentra a buen precio o incluso gratis, si lo buscáis en vuestra Biblioteca Municipal. Sus autores son ANNE JONAS y REMI SAILLARD. También tiene una edición sobre los galos, otra sobre los cromañones y otro de gladiadores. Creo que la edición original es en francés, no hemos encontrado edición en inglés. Esperamos que os resulte interesante.

PLAYMOBIL DIORAMA – THE WHALE HUNTERS

Aunque se trata de una pequeña escena, nos apetecía recrear la caza de una ballena por parte de nuestros vikingos, después de haberse enfrentado con el Kraken. Teníamos la opción del cachalote (ref.7988) o de la orca (ref.3865). Nos parecía que el primero quedaría un poco desproporcionado respecto al barco y tendríamos que usar varios barcos para poder cazarlo. Con la orca queda más manejable. Habría estado bien tener varias, ya que, siempre se mueven en grupos. La orca, en realidad, es un delfín grande. Nuestros vikingos obtienen muchísimas cosas de ella: aceite, carne, marfil, huesos…

En cuanto a la escena, hemos querido dotarla de cierta sensación de velocidad, como si les fuese difícil alcanzar a su presa. En esta ocasión, no hay cascos ni espadas, han salido de casa a la búsqueda de un buen filete de ballena para cenar… Esperamos que os guste y sea parecido a lo que teníais pensado.

Although it is another small scene, we wanted to recreate some whale hunters in Vikings times, after they had faced the Kraken. We had the option of the sperm whale (ref.7988) or the orca (ref.3865). It seemed to us that the first one would be a bit disproportionate to the ship and we would have to use several boats to be able to hunt it. With the orca, the scene is more manageable. It would have been nice to have some more orcas, because they always move in groups. The orca is actually a big dolphin. Our Vikings get many things from her: oil, meat, ivory, bones...

We wanted to give it a certain speed sense, as if it were difficult for them to hunt their prey. This time, there are no helmets or swords, they have left their house to find a good whale fillet for dinner ... We hope you like it and the result looks like what you thought.

PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM – SARACENS (VI)

Aquí viene otra nueva tanda de guerreros. Ahora vamos con un poco de infantería y arqueros en tonos blancos. Todavía en fase de revisión. Esperamos que os gusten.
