PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM QUEEN CHRISTINA OF SWEDEN

When you approach the subjects, you can find small treasures that make all that search effort rewarded. Today we bring you a historical figure that we have arrive accidentally, but we find it very interesting to share with our readers.

Cuando uno se acerca a los temas, puede encontrar pequeños tesoros que hacen que todo ese esfuerzo de búsqueda quede recompensado. Hoy os traemos una figura histórica a la que hemos llegado de rebote, pero que nos parece muy interesante compartir con nuestros lectores.

Queen Cristina of Sweden (1626 - 1689) is a character who has earned her place in history on her own merits. Daughter of the king Gustav II Adolph, became queen in 1632 at the age of 6 years, after the death of his father in the battle of Lützen.

La reina Cristina de Suecia (1626 – 1689) es un personaje que se ha ganado su sitio en la historia por méritos propios. Hija del rey Gustavo II Adolfo, se convirtió en reina en 1632 a la edad de 6 años, tras la muerte de su padre en la batalla de Lützen.

It is about a woman instructed in languages, philosophy, history, theology and astronomy, who corresponded with scholars like the philosopher Descartes, to whom she offered her patronage. She spent a lot of time reading, but that was no obstacle for horse riding, fencing and hunting to be part of her daily life. With a Spartan character, she liked to wear comfortable clothes and practices that gave her a masculine look (like the use of pants, which was a revolution in her time). Nothing to do with many of the "queens and princesses" that today abound in the European palaces unfortunately.

Se trata de una mujer instruida en idiomas, filosofía, historia, teología y astronomía, que mantenía correspondencia con eruditos como el filosofo Descartes, al que ofreció su patrocinio. Dedicaba mucho tiempo a la lectura, pero eso no era obstáculo para que la equitación, la esgrima y la caza formaran parte de su vida cotidiana. De carácter espartano, le gustaba llevar ropas cómodas y prácticas que le daban cierto aspecto masculino (como el uso de pantalones, que era una revolución en su época). Nada que ver con muchas de las “reinas y princesas florero” que hoy abundan en las cortes europeas lamentablemente.

Her motto "Wisdom is the pillar of the kingdom" (Column regni sapientia) is a declaration of intentions. Known as the Minerva of the North, she surrounded herself with the great figures of knowledge and culture of the time and made Sweden the center of European Humanism during her reign.

Su  lema “La sabiduría es el pilar del reino” (Columna regni sapientia) es toda una declaración de intenciones. Conocida como la Minerva del Norte se rodeó de las grandes figuras del conocimiento y de la cultura de la época y consiguió que Suecia fuera el centro del Humanismo de Europa durante su reinado. 

What has surprised me most about the character is that she must be a woman with strong convictions and at the same time open minded to knowledge and change, so much so that it is one of the few cases of renunciation of the throne. Born Protestant, free-thinking and tolerant, she converted to Catholicism in her last days. She is buried in Rome.

Lo que más me ha sorprendido del personaje es que debía ser una mujer de fuertes convicciones y al mismo tiempo abierta al conocimiento y al cambio, tanto que se trata de uno de los pocos casos de renuncia al trono. Nacida protestante, de carácter librepensador y tolerante, se convirtió al catolicismo en sus últimos días. Está enterrada en Roma.

We have come to her through the cinema, the great movie Queen Cristina of Sweden (1933) starring Greta Garbo (also Swedish) and from which we had already left some previous reference. The film is a delight (it has the 100% Rotten Tomatoes score) and takes the liberty of including a love story between the queen and the Spanish ambassador Don Antonio Pimentel del Prado (real character played by John Gilbert). We can not miss the great supporting actor Charles Aubrey Smith, who has done so many good times with his work.

Nosotros hemos llegado a ella a través del cine, de la estupenda película La reina Cristina de Suecia (1933) protagonizada por Greta Garbo (también sueca) y de la que ya os habíamos dejado alguna referencia anterior. La película es una delicia (tiene la calificación 100% Rotten Tomatoes) y se toma la libertad de incluir una historia de amor entre la reina y el embajador español Don Antonio Pimentel del Prado (personaje real interpretado por John Gilbert). No podemos dejar pasar al estupendo actor secundario Charles Aubrey Smith, que tantos buenos ratos nos ha hecho pasar con su trabajo.

Our queen Cristina is inspired by Greta Garbo. We have mixed some pieces of the always criticized Super4 to give her that boy aspect that they managed so well to capture in the film. We have not been able to resist and we have also recreated the character played by John Gilbert. We want to pay tribute to both the historical and the cinematographic. We hope you like it.

Nuestra reina Cristina está inspirada en Greta Garbo. Hemos mezclado algunas piezas de los siempre criticados Super4 para darle ese aspecto de chico que tan bien consiguieron captar en la película. No nos hemos podido resistir y también hemos recreado al personaje interpretado por John Gilbert. Queremos rendir tributo tanto al personaje histórico como al cinematográfico. Esperamos que os guste.

PLAYMOBIL DIORAMA MUSKETEERS

In our third post, we will compile our characters in the different dioramas that we have been making. You will see changes in the pieces of the figures. Starting from October of 2017 until almost now. We do not tire of reviewing and adding pieces in these figures.

En nuestra tercera entrada os vamos a recopilar a nuestros personajes en los diferentes escenarios que hemos ido haciendo. Veréis modificaciones en las piezas de las figuras. Van desde octubre de 2017 hasta casi ahora mismo. No nos cansamos de repasar y añadir piezas en estas figuras.

The scenes can be improved. We have not had occasion to make a diorama with tranquility and we have much to improve. But we think there have made curious images that we wanted to share.

Las escenas pueden ser mejoradas. No hemos tenido ocasión de hacer un montaje con tranquilidad y tenemos mucho que mejorar. Pero creemos que han quedado estampas curiosas que queríamos compartir.

For the first scene, we chose to join several buildings of Steck and System X to recreate a square or the entrance of a street. Later we refine more with the buildings that you can see in an entry related to the theme.

Para un primer montaje, optamos por unir varios edificios de Steck y System X para recrear un patio o la entrada de una calle. Posteriormente afinamos más con los edificios que podréis ver en una entrada relacionada con el tema

In a second scene, we try to recreate an interior courtyard of a barracks. You have already seen it in the introducing posts of the characters. Here you can see the visit from the King to his musketeers.

En un segundo montaje, intentamos recrear un patio interior de un cuartel. Ya lo habéis visto en las entradas de presentación de los personajes. Aquí podéis ver una visita del rey a sus mosqueteros. 

There have also been outtakes like these tavern scenes, which we found very funny, but for which we did not have enough light to get good detailed photos.

También ha habido tomas falsas como estas escenas  de taberna, que nos resultaron muy divertidas, pero para la que no teníamos suficiente luz como para sacar detalles.

And finally, taking advantage of our manor house and adding some elements, we built a small barracks outside of Paris. All the elements and characters we made for our recreation of the English Civil War fit perfectly with our musketeers.

Y por último, aprovechando nuestra casa señorial y añadiendo algunos elementos hicimos un pequeño cuartel a las afueras de París. Todos los elementos y personajes que hicimos para nuestra recreación de la Guerra Civil Inglesa encajan perfectamente con nuestros mosqueteros.

In short, a very fun subject, with many possibilities both for the creation of figures and for the development of buildings and dioramas. We hope you liked it.

En resumen, un tema muy divertido, con muchas posibilidades tanto para la creación de figuras como para el desarrollo de edificios y escenarios. Esperamos que os haya gustado.

PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM MUSKETEERS (II)

The good thing about the history of The Three Musketeers is that they have mixed, adventures, love, betrayal, fights, heroes, villains ... To prove it is the great journey that it has taken place within the audiovisual world. Today we are going to dedicate to the villains of history, without whom it would have no interest.

Lo bueno que tiene la historia de los tres mosqueteros es que tiene mezcladas, aventuras, amor, traición, luchas, héroes, villanos… La prueba es el gran recorrido que ha tenido dentro del mundo audiovisual. Hoy vamos a dedicarnos a los villanos de la historia, sin los cuales no tendría interés.

Although it is a historical character, we can say that his figurative character has surpassed himself. When somebody talks about Cardinal Richelieu, many of us are talking about the figurative character created by Dumas rather than the historical one. Our character has suffered several "mutations" until reaching the final form. We doubt with the face of the Super 4, but it definitely fits very well.

Aunque se trata de un personaje histórico, podemos decir que su personaje figurado le ha superado. Cuando se trata del Cardenal Richelieu para muchos de nosotros estamos hablando del personaje figurado creado por Dumas más que del histórico. Nuestro personaje ha sufrido varias “mutaciones” hasta llegar al definitivo. Dudamos con la cara de los Super 4, pero definitivamente le queda muy bien. 

We had a picture in mind to recreate and we have dared. We put the original and the copy, so you can judge.

Teníamos un cuadro en mente para recrear y nos hemos atrevido. Ponemos original y copia, para que podáis juzgar.

We also had a stagecoach project, but at the moment it is stopped. The lackeys are waiting.

Teníamos también un proyecto de carruaje, pero por el momento está parado. Los lacayos están esperando.

The Count of Rochefort is another character we wanted to try. That bad face with a patch helps a lot.

El Conde de Rochefort es otro personaje que queríamos intentar. Esa cara de malo con parche ayuda mucho.

Milady de Winter. Although the novel is blonde, we have tried two versions. We are waiting to find some pieces and paint some accessories to make the final.

Milady de Winter. Aunque en la novela es rubia, hemos probado con estas dos alternativas. Estamos a la espera de encontrar unas piezas y pintar unos accesorios para hacer la definitiva.

The Cardinal's guard also has halberdiers and musketeers.

La guardia del Cardenal también tiene alabarderos y mosqueteros. 

We would like to have been to make some stickers to put on but I think the result is good and we had not had to make big changes. We may make some revision in the future.

Lo ideal habría sido hacer una pegatinas para poner en unos petos pero creo que el resultado es bueno y no ha habido que hacer grandes transformaciones. Puede que en el futuro hagamos alguna revisión.

PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM MUSKETEERS

We introduce to you some new posts that complete our cycle on the seventeenth century and are a tribute to The Three Musketeers. We open with the characters in our usual format and in the last post we will compile several scenes and dioramas that we had made. We have not been completely satisfied with the dioramas that we have made and I think there are also some figures that we will change over time. If we can, we will do with some of the musketeers of the mystery series 16 and that surely will not be available until the summer.

Os presentamos unas entradas que completan nuestro ciclo sobre el siglo XVII y que son un homenaje a Los Tres Mosqueteros. Presentamos primero las figuras en nuestro formato habitual y en la última entrada haremos un refrito de varias escenas y montajes que habíamos preparado. No nos hemos quedado completamente satisfechos con los escenarios que hemos hecho y creo que también hay algunas figuras que iremos cambiando con el tiempo. Si podemos, nos haremos con algunos de los mosqueteros de la serie 16 de sobres y que seguramente no estarán disponibles hasta entrado el verano.

This subject could give many posts, simply focusing each of them on a character (real or fictional) of Dumas novels, but it is a job that we can not make right now. For those who have not read the book, we can only encourage you to dedicate part of your time to it. However, if you want to make a quick introduction you can go through the blog PLAYMOGUARDIAN and review their entries on the subject.

Este tema podría dar para muchas entradas, simplemente centrando cada una de ellas en un personaje (real o ficticio) de las novelas de Dumas, pero es un trabajo que ahora mismo no podemos hacer. Para aquellos que no hayan leído el libro, solo podemos animaros a que dediquéis parte de vuestro tiempo a ello. No obstante, si queréis hacer una introducción rápida os podéis pasar por el blog PLAYMOGUARDIAN y revisar sus entradas sobre el tema.

As for the pieces, again the DS has come to our aid. The series of Pirates, Magic and the Super 4 have been very useful to complete the characters. We are particularly pleased with the female characters, who seem to fit the aesthetics of the period quite well. We miss parts that we would like Playmobil to take out at some point: The arquebus (please!), A sword with guard, some wheellock pistols....

En cuanto a las piezas, de nuevo el DS ha acudido en nuestra ayuda. La serie de Piratas, la de Princesas y los Super 4 nos han sido de gran utilidad para poder completar los personajes. Estamos particularmente satisfechos de los personajes femeninos, que nos parecen que se ajustan bastante bien a la estética del periodo. Echamos en falta piezas que nos gustaría que Playmobil sacara en algún momento: El arcabuz (¡por favor!), una espada con guarda, unas pistolas de rueda….

Our first character is Louis XIII, King of France. It is a character that we have worked and changed a lot until we achieve this result.

Nuestro primer personaje es Luis XIII, rey de Francia. Es una figura que hemos trabajo y cambiado mucho hasta conseguir este resultado.

The next character is Luis' wife, Queen Ana of Austria, that was born in Spain. The objective of this marriage was to end the conflicts between France and Spain, but it was not finally achieved.

El siguiente personaje es la esposa de Luis, la reina Ana de Austria, de origen español. El objetivo de este matrimonio era acabar con los conflictos entre Francia y España, pero no se consiguió.

The queen could not be without a personal guard. We have taken advantage of the purple tones for this. Also we used the special figure 4678 to make a captain of the queen guard.

No podía faltarle a la reina una guardia personal. Hemos aprovechado los tonos morados para ello. También el special 4678 para hacerle un capitán de la guardia.

For the king's musketeers we have made two versions. A first with some halberdiers and another with the musketeers.

Para los mosqueteros del rey hemos hecho dos versiones. Una primera con unos alabarderos y otra con los mosqueteros.

The better option would have been to have blue breastplates with the flower of lys (using stickers), but we ended up deciding on a free version, that we liked it more, using the torso of the herald of the reference 3659. Surely and if we do with the mystery series 16, we will make some change.

Lo suyo habría sido contar con unos petos azules con la flor de lys, pero nos acabamos decidiendo por una versión libre, que nos gustaba más, utilizando el peto del heraldo de la referencia 3659. Seguramente y si nos hacemos con los sobres de la serie 16, les haremos algún cambio.

The Lord of Treville, Captain of the Musketeers, could not be absent.

No podía faltar el Señor de Treville, capitán de los mosqueteros.

For the characters of the three musketeers we have made several versions. Our D'Artagnan is final. The three remaining ones (Athos, Porthos and Aramis) have been changing, and we still do not finish them .

Para los personajes de los tres mosqueteros hemos hecho varias versiones. Nuestro D'Artagnan es definitivo. Los tres restantes (Athos, Porthos y Aramis) han ido cambiando, y aún no lo tenemos claro.

Our Constance de Bonacieux looks pretty nice. In the next post we will introduce to you Cardinal Richelieu and his acolytes. We hope you liked it. All for one and one for all!
