PLAYMOBIL DIORAMA XVII CENTURY CAMPFIRE

Our last post about the XVII Century and of this year is not a large diorama as usual. We have done some scenes with our figures placed marching. In that years, the armies still needed to move slowly to be able to move forward and it was normal to look for any place and moment for relief and leisure.

Nuestra última entrada sobre el siglo XVII y del año no es un gran diorama como tal. Hemos hecho algunas escenas con nuestras figuras colocadas marchando. En esta época los ejércitos seguían necesitando moverse lentamente para poder ir avanzando y era normal buscar cualquier recodo y momento para el desahogo y el ocio. 

They are pictures that try to remember that atmosphere: of march, of card games by the light of a campfire, of campaign pot, of improvised music... It can be any point in our old Europe.

Son estampas que intentan recordar ese ambiente: de marcha, de juegos de cartas a la luz de una hoguera, de puchero de campaña, de música improvisada. Bien puede ser cualquier punto de la vieja Europa.

Here the flags do not matter, nor the nations, nor the creeds ... During the march, drums and flutes sound during the way. The universal language of friendship, of laughs, of music sounding is spoken around the campfires. We imagine them gathered at dusk as they sing and dance. It could well sound the "Sarao de la chacona" by Juan Arañés or  some "Canario" by Kaspberger or Gaspar Sanz played by a lute or a baroque guitar carried by one of their comrades.

Aquí no importan las banderas, ni las naciones, ni los credos… Durante la marcha suenan tambores y flautas amenizando el camino. Alrededor de los fuegos se habla el lenguaje universal de la camaradería, de la risa, de la música. Nos los imaginamos reunidos al caer la tarde mientras cantan y bailan. Bien podría sonar el “Sarao de la chacona” de Juan Arañés o  un  “Canario” de Kaspberger  o de Gaspar Sanz tocado por un laúd o una guitarra barroca que lleva alguno de sus compañeros.

PLAYMOBIL DIORAMA MANOR HOUSE

We are at the end of 2018 and we could not dream that we would reach out  here. We wanted to reach 300,000 visits at the end of the year and it is a dream come true. THANK YOU! We can not believe that there are days with more than 400 visits to our posts. But we're not going to cheat you, we're finishing this trip. We will continue as long as we have material to share in the form of a post. We can only have words of thanks for those who visit us and especially for those who leave us their comment.

Today it is time to recreate a manor house within our dioramas dedicated to the seventeenth century. Although we are already within the modern World history, there were still many remnants of medieval society. The nobility remained a very important element and in many times, due to their power, they were able to mobilize and maintain small armies.

Estamos a finales de 2018 y no podríamos soñar que nos acercaríamos aquí. Queríamos llegar a 300.000 visitas a fin de año y es un sueño hecho realidad. ¡GRACIAS! No podemos creer que haya días con más de 400 visitas a nuestras publicaciones. Pero no os vamos a engañar, estamos terminando este viaje. Continuaremos mientras tengamos material para compartir en forma de publicación. Solo podemos tener palabras de agradecimiento para quienes nos visitan y siguen cada semana, especialmente para quienes nos dejan constancia de su vista a través de sus comentarios.

Hemos llegado a las postrimerías del año 2018 y seguimos con otro diorama sobre el siglo XVII. Hoy toca una casa señorial. Aunque estamos ya dentro de la historia de los estados modernos, aún quedaban muchos restos de la sociedad medieval. La nobleza seguía siendo un elemento muy importante y en algunos casos, debido a su poder, eran capaces de movilizar y mantener pequeños ejércitos.

In today's post we can see the same scene for our two armies: royalists and parliamentarists in any manor house in mid-seventeenth century England preparing to march into battle. The challenge was to make an accurate construction of the period using the Steck system and integrate all the figures and elements that we have created so far. It also serves to see our whole army grouped. We believe that we have achieved a fairly faithful manor house, although as always it can be improved.

En la entrada de hoy podemos ver la misma escena para nuestras dos facciones: realistas y parlamentarios en cualquier casa señorial de la Inglaterra de mitad del siglo XVII preparándose para marchar a la batalla. El reto era hacer una construcción del periodo utilizando el sistema Steck e integrar todas las figuras y elementos que hemos ido creando hasta ahora. Sirve además para ver todo nuestro ejército agrupado. Creemos que hemos conseguido una casa señorial bastante fiel, aunque como siempre puede ser mejorada.

We also took advantage to play a little with the effects and the photos. We know that not all of our readers share this hobby, we apologize and think that there are others who do appreciate it. Only testing and making mistakes is improved. We put all the alternatives for you to choose the ones you like.

PLAYMOBIL DIORAMA CHURCH COURTYARD

We started our posts of dioramas of the seventeenth century with a scene that is inspired by a painting: "The siege (defense of the courtyard of a Church during the Thirty Years War)," by the German romantic painter Karl Friedrich Lessing. You can compare, but we already know that the comparisons are hateful ... The idea was not to copy the painting, it was to make a diorama around that structure: A building in ruins, whose privileged position has been taken advantage of by its occupants to plant battle. On the other side, his opponents, who have also improvised a redoubt, hope to keep the occupants of the ruins besieged.

Empezamos nuestras entradas de dioramas del siglo XVII con una escena que está inspirada en un cuadro: “El asedio (defensa del patio de la Iglesia durante la Guerra de los Treinta Años)”, del pintor romántico alemán Karl Friedrich Lessing. Lo primero que puede hacerse es comparar, pero ya sabemos que las comparaciones son odiosas… La idea no era copiar el cuadro, era hacer un diorama en torno a esa estructura: Una edificación medio en ruinas, cuya posición privilegiada, ha sido  aprovechada por sus ocupantes para plantar batalla. En el otro lado, sus oponentes, que también han improvisado un parapeto, esperan poder mantener sitiados a los ocupantes de las ruinas.

As on other occasions we have to resort to scenes that do not need a large deployment of troops (especially because we do not have them ...). However, it is a scene that we had already tried as a sketch on a smaller scale, and I think we have to continue perfecting some things. Looking at it now, I would change the building a bit more ruinous, improve the barricades, relocate the forest and play  with the heights so as not to leave those "empty" spaces in the center of the diorama. We aim for next time.

Como en otras ocasiones tenemos que recurrir a escenas que no necesiten un gran despliegue de tropas (sobre todo porque no las tenemos...). No obstante, es una estampa que ya habíamos probado como boceto en a menor escala, y creo que tenemos que seguir perfeccionando algunas cosas. Viéndolo ahora, cambiaría un poco el edificio a algo más ruinoso, mejoraría las barricadas, recolocaría la vegetación y jugaría un poco con la altura para no dejar esos espacios tan “vacios” en el centro del diorama. Lo apuntamos para la próxima vez.

You have to take into account the Playmobil scale and we could not put the figures too close to maintain a certain proportion. As you will see, we have been changing some elements to see the result, but always maintaining the height difference between the soldiers.

Hay que tener en cuenta la escala Playmobil y no podíamos poner las figuras demasiado cerca para mantener cierta proporción. Como veréis, hemos ido cambiando algunos elementos para ver el resultado, pero siempre manteniendo la diferencia de altura entre sitiados y sitiadores.

We did not want to give up elements like the cannon (which was being introduced) or the custom bridge. We find pieces that improve the scene, especially the great bridge of Playmolook, a piece that we will never tire of thanking, which allows us to make very interesting scenes.

No queríamos renunciar a elementos como el cañón (que se estrenaba) o el puente. Nos parecen piezas que mejoran la escena, sobre todo el estupendo puente de Playmolook, una pieza que no nos cansaremos nunca de agradecer, que permite hacer estampas muy interesantes.

Nor could miss any of our homemade helmets and some other close-up.

Tampoco podía faltar nuestra borgoñota casera y algún otro primer plano.

It may seem that with such a deployment the siege will be short, but let's not forget that almost all the work must be done with a pike and sword. There is battle for a while and the result is not clear. In our case, it is a "realistic" redoubt, which is being attacked by parliamentary troops for some time during the "English Revolution" (ECW).

Puede parecer que con semejante despliegue el asedio será corto, pero no olvidemos que casi todo el trabajo hay que hacerlo golpe de pica y sable. Hay batalla para rato y no está claro el resultado. En nuestro caso, se trata de un reducto “realista”, que está siendo atacado por tropas parlamentaristas durante algún momento de la “Revolución Inglesa”.

PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM XVII CENTURY ARTILLERY

As we have already told you, this summer we went back to buy Feroca epoxy putty. We are not very skilled working the putty. We are lacking some practice and we are still learning, but we wanted to make some experiments. Among them are some pieces that we introduce today.

Como ya os hemos contado, este verano volvimos a comprar masilla de dos componentes Feroca. No somos muy hábiles trabajando la masilla. Nos falta práctica y seguimos siendo un poco chapucillas, pero queríamos hacer algunos experimentos. Entre ellos están algunas piezas que os presentamos hoy.

Everything is made mixing pieces of broken Playmobil scrapping that we are leaving in a box. A cannon and a artillery train have been made with a ship's cannon and some parts from a medieval assault tower. The gun was made splitting it and putting a wooden tube in the middle. They have even taken advantage of broken wheels. We know that it is not a museum piece, but considering that it is done in three days (including painting), it seems to us that it perfectly serves our objectives. Surely the next one will be better. For now we need to make the hitch so you can have a double train of horses. As always, it is "low cost" project. We have not spent more than 20 euro (putty included) and we will get more pieces of that investment.

Todo está hecho íntegramente uniendo piezas de Playmobil rotas de desguace que vamos dejando en una caja. Con un cañón de barco y algunos recortes de una torre de asalto medieval se ha hecho el cañón y el remolque. El ánima esta alagarda, partiéndola y poniendo un tubo de madera en medio. Hasta se han aprovechado unas ruedas rotas. No es que sea una pieza de museo, pero teniendo en cuenta que está hecho en tres días (pintura incluida), nos parece que sirve perfectamente a nuestros objetivos. Seguramente el próximo quede mejor. Por ahora nos falta hacer el enganche para que pueda tener un doble tiro de caballos. Como siempre, todo es “low cost”. Para este proyecto y otros no hemos gastado más de 20 euros (masilla incluida) y aún saldrán más piezas de esa inversión. 

The artillery in the Seventeenth Century was not yet standardized. There were many different types of guns and there was a lot of "handmade" manufacturing. It will be during the eighteenth and nineteenth century when that maturity occurs.

La artillería en el siglo XVII todavía no estaba estandarizada. Existían multitud de diferentes tipos de cañones y quedaba mucha fabricación “artesanal”. Será durante el siglo XVIII y XIX cuando se produzca esa madurez. 

We have choosen the two types of artillery of the moment, the field artillery and the siege artillery.

Hemos optado por los dos tipos de artillería del momento, la artillería de campaña y la de asedio.

For the field artillery, we used our new cannon. Here you have it crossing the great Playmolook bridge made with 3D printer.

Para la artillería de campaña, hemos usado nuestro nuevo cañón con su tiro de bueyes. Aquí lo tenéis cruzando el estupendo puente de Playmolook hecho con impresora 3D.

And for the siege artillery, we opted for the original Playmobil mortar. It needs practically nothing. We are still making some accessories.

Y para la artillería de asedio, hemos optado por el mortero original de Playmobil. No necesita prácticamente nada.  Aún estamos perfeccionando los accesorios.

For the gunners we have also made some bodies with putty. You can see them in action soon and judge. However, we think that the overall result has not been bad. We hope you like them.

Para los artilleros también hemos hecho algún peto con masilla. Los podréis ver en acción pronto y juzgar. Con todo, nos parece que el resultado global no ha sido malo. Esperamos que os gusten.
