PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM ELVES AND HOBBITS

As a continuation to our dwarf army post we introduce some figures that have to do with the fantastic subject and that we had not find the moment to post in the blog. We start with some elves. We had thought about making a complete series initially before stopping the blog in 2017, but it does not seem that we will be able to finish it for the moment. They are figures to which we return from time to time, to add some new piece that has been producing from Playmobil.

Como continuación a la entrada de los enanos os presentamos algunas figuras que tienen que ver con la temática fantástica y que no acabábamos de ver el momento de presentar en el blog. Empezamos con los elfos. Habíamos pensado en hacer una serie inicialmente antes de parar el blog en 2017, pero no parece que vayamos a poder terminarla por el momento. Son figuras a las que volvemos de vez en cuando, para añadirles alguna pieza nueva que ha sacado Playmobil.

There is a mixture of many sets and mystery , but if I had to keep a piece, it would be with the wig of Princess Leonora of the Super 4 (ref 6699).

Hay mezcla de muchas figuras y sobres, pero si tuviera que quedarme con una pieza, sería con la peluca de la Princesa Leonora de los Super 4 (ref. 6699). 

We've made a bit of everything, forest elves, golden elves ... even figures mounted on the famous Meara horses, following a pattern parallel to the Lord of the Rings.

Hemos hecho un poco de todo, elfos de los bosques, elfos dorados... hasta figuras montadas en los famosos caballos Mearas, siguiendo un patrón paralelo al Señor de los Anillos. 

Being a subject that we love, we have not known how to make a good diorama. Part of the problem is finding the right constructions and buildings. We leave you some outtakes of dioramas that have never seen the light and a compilation video. How we miss our polystyrene rocks!

Siendo un tema que nos encanta, no hemos sabido encontrar la manera de hacer un buen diorama. Parte del problema está en encontrar las construcciones adecuadas. Os dejamos algunas tomas falsas de dioramas que nunca han visto la luz y un video recopilatorio. ¡Cómo echamos en falta nuestras rocas de poliestireno!

We always wanted to make some hobbits walking and singing along a path of the Comarca, but the barefoot dwarf legs have not yet arrived.

Siempre quisimos hacer algunos hobbits caminando y cantando por un sendero de la Comarca, pero no han llegado todavía los pies de enano descalzo. 

The idea is not ours, we saw it in an incredible figure of Pelalal and we have developed a little about that idea our version. The new ponies of the dwarves help a lot.

La idea no es nuestra, la vimos en una increíble figura de Pelalal y hemos desarrollado un poco sobre esa idea nuestra versión. Los nuevos ponis de los enanos ayudan mucho.

Our last figure is a small tribute to Gandalf.

Nuestra última presentación es un pequeño tributo a Gandalf.

PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM DWARF ARMY

Not too long ago it was impossible to think that Playmobil would release a dwarves series. All these novelties are an opportunity to improve our custom figures. It is a subject that we find very interesting, and of which we are infinitely grateful for pieces such as the new long beards or the new ponies. In our opinion, it is also a very good source of pieces to renew the figures of Vikings, medieval, pirates... in case you are fans of that subjects.

Hace no demasiado tiempo era imposible pensar que Playmobil sacaría una serie dedicada a los enanos. Todas estas novedades son una oportunidad para mejorar nuestras figuras. Es una temática que nos parece muy interesante, y de la que estamos infinitamente agradecidos por piezas como las nuevas barbas o los nuevos ponis. En nuestra opinión, es también una muy buena fuente de piezas para renovar las figuras de vikingos y medievales, en el caso de que seáis aficionados al tema.

We had previously made some figures with the subject of the dwarves and when the new sets came out we try to review part of the old figures and expand a little the army what we already had.

Ya habíamos hecho anteriormente algunas figuras con el tema de los enanos y cuando salieron las nuevas referencias nos propusimos repasar parte de las figuras antiguas y ampliar así un poco lo que ya teníamos.  

One of the novelties that we like the most is the two new ponies. When we watched them, we thought about to have to make our own dwarven cavalry.

Una de las novedades que más nos gustan son los dos nuevos ponis. Fue verlos y pensar en hacer nuestra propia caballería enana.

Another great idea that we did not want to pass without trying was to use the ponys as a supply train.

Otra idea que no queríamos pasar sin probar con los ponis era utilizarlos como tren de aprovisionamiento.

And although it cost us to find the right war machine, it seems to us that they also adapt in a very dignified way in our new heavy units.

Y aunque nos costó encontrar la maquinaría de guerra adecuada, nos parece que también se adaptan de una manera muy digna en nuestras nuevas  unidades pesadas.

The last pending issue was to incorporate golden pieces to our troop, which we have assigned as a elite guard for our dwarf king. Again we chose pieces of knights that we thought would not fit our plans and they are definitely the answer.

La última asignatura pendiente era la de incorporar piezas doradas a nuestra tropa, que hemos asignado como escolta para nuestro rey enano. De nuevo elegimos piezas de los caballeros que pensábamos que no encajarían en nuestros planes y que definitivamente son la respuesta.

So taking pieces from one side and another, we have updated our dwarf army. We do not give it for definitive, because we think that Playmobil will still give us some surprise in the future.

Así tomando piezas de un lado y de otro, hemos actualizado nuestro ejército enano. No lo damos por definitivo, pues pensamos que Playmobil todavía nos dará alguna sorpresa en el futuro.

PLAYMOBIL DIORAMA THE SILK ROAD IN THE AGE OF MARCO POLO

There are some figures that we loved to create but it is not easy to place them in a diorama. The adventures of Marco Polo, we think a very interesting subject, but we are not able to take much advantage of our creations. We would love to make a great Chinese palace, but it is totally out of our possibilities.

Hay algunas figuras que nos ha encantado hacer pero que no es nada fácil colocarlas en un diorama. Las aventuras de Marco Polo, nos parecen un tema muy interesante, pero no estamos en condiciones de sacar mucho provecho de nuestras creaciones. Nos encantaría un gran palacio Chino, pero está totalmente fuera de nuestras posibilidades.

As we wanted to make a diorama, we chose to display a couple of small scenes in which to place our characters without much effort. We have incorporated some other characters to give some sense to the dioramas. In the story (which is not sure to be real) two monks appear who are sent by the Pope along with the Polo brothers to close relations with the great Khan. They turn around shortly after leaving the city of Acre, at the thought of being imprisoned by the Mamluk sultan Baibars. We have preferred that they accompany our protagonists during something more of their trip. They are two Dominican friars whose names are Nicolás de Viena and Guillermo de Trípoli.

Como algo queríamos hacer, hemos optado por montar un par de pequeñas escenas en las que colocar a nuestros personajes sin mucho esfuerzo. Hemos incorporado algún personaje más para darle cierto sentido a los dioramas. En la historia (que no es seguro que sea real) aparecen dos monjes que son enviados por el Papa junto con los hermanos Polo para cerrar relaciones con el gran Khan. Se dan la vuelta al poco de salir de la ciudad de Acre, ante la idea de caer prisioneros del sultán mameluco Baibars. Nosotros hemos preferido que acompañen a nuestros protagonistas durante algo más del camino. Se trata de dos frailes dominicos cuyos nombres son Nicolás de Viena y Guillermo de Trípoli. 

In the first scene, our travelers took of the company of a small caravan that arrives at an oasis. We have used some our Saracens to recreate this small scale on the Silk Road. As a novelty and to rival our Hispanic beauties of our Insulae and our new Vikings women we have made the Arabic version taking advantage of a very interesting piece of the ref. 9483.

En la primera escena, nuestros viajeros aprovecharon la compañía de una pequeña caravana que llega a un oasis. Algunas figuras de nuestros sarracenos de acompañamiento  ayudan a recrear está pequeña escala en la Ruta de la Seda. Como novedad y para rivalizar con nuestras bellezas hispanas de la Insulae y nuestras nuevas vikingas hemos hecho la versión árabe aprovechando una pieza muy interesante de la ref. 9483.

In the second diorama, the Polo brothers have already crossed the Gobi desert and encountered the first populations of Mongols. We could not resist making this Yurt with an old shoe box and a pair of EVA rubber sheets. It took us a couple of hours to finished it and I think it gives a bit of credibility to the scene. We also made some more Mongol using the eskimos of the DS (ref 6559) that have very interesting pieces like women and children.

En el segundo diorama, los hermanos Polo ya han cruzado el desierto del Gobi y se han encontrado con las primeras poblaciones de mongoles. No nos pudimos resistir a hacer esta Yurta con una caja de zapatos vieja y un par de láminas de goma EVA. Nos llevó un par de horas hacerla y creo que le da un poco de credibilidad a la escena. Hemos aprovechado también para hacer algún mongol más utilizando los esquimales del DS (ref. 6559) que tienen piezas muy interesantes como la mujer y los niños.

PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM NORMAN & VIKING BODIES (II)

We start the year with something that goes out of our usual line of work. Experimentation always has unpredictable results. To let a little putty in inexperienced hands may not be a good idea. What you see here is not a change in our way of seeing our hobby, nor an attack of transient madness, it is a simple experiment that we have done at a certain moment. It is a job that we made last summer, that always has more moments for this type of projects. You have already seen the helmets we had customized for our seventeenth-century figures and we also tried to make some new pieces for our Vikings and Normans.

Our experiment was focused on three main objectives: to continue testing new textures and combinations for bodies, to explore the subject of helmets and to make some other type of accessories. As always, everything in a hurry and to be able to play with it as soon as possible.

Empezamos el año con algo que se sale de nuestra línea habitual. La experimentación siempre tiene resultados impredecibles. Dejar un poco de masilla en manos inexpertas puede no ser una buena idea. Lo que veis aquí no es un cambio en nuestra manera de ver nuestra afición, ni un ataque de locura transitoria, es un simple experimento que hemos hecho en un momento determinado. Se trata de un trabajo que abordamos en el verano, que siempre tiene más huecos para este tipo de proyectos. Ya habéis visto los cascos que habíamos personalizado para nuestras figuras del siglo XVII y probamos también en hacer algunas cosas para nuestros vikingos y normandos.

El experimento estaba enfocado a tres objetivos principales: seguir probando texturas y combinaciones para los cuerpos, explorar el tema de los cascos y hacer algún otro tipo de accesorio. Como siempre, todo a la prisa y para poder jugar con ello.

The chosen people were 6 Vikings and 6 Normans. Do not suffer, almost all the modified pieces are unuseful or broken ones. Our Vikings and Normans are still intact. There has been no sacrilege, many lessons learned and many others to learn. We are not happy with many things, but we also share them so that you can evaluate and criticize. Seeing the beautiful things that are on the net, gives us a bit of shame to show them. But that's life.

El grupo elegido eran 6 vikingos y 6 normandos. No sufráis, casi todo lo modificado son piezas de descarte y rotas. Nuestros vikingos y normandos siguen intactos. No ha habido sacrilegio, sí muchas lecciones aprendidas y otras tantas por aprender. No estamos contentos con muchas cosas, pero las compartimos también para que podáis valorar y criticar. Viendo las cosas tan bonitas que hay por la red, nos da un poco de vergüenza enseñarlas. Pero así es la vida. 

Let´s start with our group of Viking warriors. The challenge was to get some textures such as the chain mail or the fur skirt on the bodies. Also we tried new helmet versions. In general the result seems good for the beginner degree we have. It could have been better if we had used paints without dry brush effect or washed. The effects of the chain mail are still very far from what we want to achieve but they have enjoyed a lot.

Vamos primero con nuestro grupo de guerreros vikingos. El objetivo era conseguir algunas texturas como la cota de malla o la falda de pelo en los cuerpos. También probar versiones de cascos nuevas. En general el resultado nos parece bueno para el grado de principiante que tenemos. Puede que hubieran quedado mejor si hubiéramos utilizado pinturas sin efecto pincel seco ni lavados. Los efectos de cota de malla están aún muy lejos de lo que queremos conseguir pero nos han dado alguna alegría.

The putty body  of the Viking women was a pending issue after the viking couple that we introduced to you in our post of the Viking house. Here there are Inga and Helga, our version 2.0. 

El cuerpo rígido de masilla de las mujeres vikingas era una asignatura pendiente después de la pareja que os presentamos en la entrada de la casa vikinga. Aquí os presentamos a Inga y Helga, nuestra versión 2.0.

Our Normans have had worse luck. Although the techniques have been the same, the bodies have been longer and disproportionate. There are interesting details in the helmets and in some accessory like the mace, but there is much to improve.

Nuestros normandos han tenido peor suerte. Aunque las técnicas han sido las mismas, los cuerpos han quedado más largos y desproporcionados. Hay detalles interesantes en los cascos y en algún accesorio como la porra, pero hay mucho que mejorar.

The civil characters we have chosen are a monk and a Norman princess. We had previously tried a fat one that had been bad enough and we wanted to see how it came out in a skinny version. The Norman princess may be our favorite figure. She has nothing but a little putty in the arms and the belt, taking as a basis the new figure of Cleopatra. It is our particular Éowyn.

Los personajes civiles que hemos elegido son un monje y una princesa normanda. Habíamos probado anteriormente con un gordo que había quedado bastante mal y queríamos ver qué tal nos salía en versión flaco. La princesa normanda puede que sea nuestra figura preferida. No tiene nada más que un poco de masilla en las mangas y el cinturón, tomando como base a la nueva figura de Cleopatra. Es nuesta Éowyn particular.
