PLAYMOBIL DIORAMA THE LOST WORLD EXPLORERS (II)

Once again our adventurers have found an unexpected exit in one of the caves they were exploring. After their triumphant return after having discovered the mythical elephants graveyard, they managed to finance a new expedition to Central America in search of the origin of some strange fossils. When they were about to desist in their attempt, they have come across the greatest discovery of the nineteenth century: The Lost World.

Nuevamente nuestros aventureros han encontrado una salida inesperada en una de las cuevas que estaban explorando. Tras su retorno triunfal después de haber descubierto el mítico cementerio de elefantes, consiguieron que se financiase una nueva expedición a Centro América en busca del origen de algunos fósiles extraños. Cuando ya estaban a punto de desistir en su intento, se han topado con el mayor descubrimiento del siglo XIX: El mundo perdido.

Although it is a scenic that we had initially thought to set other dioramas, we tried to see how our group of explorers fit in and we were very satisfied with the result. The effect of several heights, caves, bends, makes a space that the same serves for a Mediterranean island that for a valley of the Jurassic period. Always clear, putting a little imagination on our part. In addition, we had been longing to do something big with the dinosaurs, because we had not managed to make a diorama in conditions until now.

Aunque se trata de un decorado que inicialmente habíamos pensado para ambientar otras escenas, probamos a ver qué tal encajaban nuestro grupo de exploradores y hemos quedado muy satisfechos con el resultado. El efecto de varias alturas, cuevas, recodos, hace un espacio que lo mismo sirve para una isla mediterránea que para un valle del periodo jurásico. Siempre claro, poniendo un poco de imaginación de nuestra parte. Además, teníamos clavada la espinita con los dinosaurios, pues no habíamos conseguido hacer un diorama en condiciones hasta ahora.

The Playmobil dinos series is, in our humble opinion, one of the best series they have produced in recent years. They are clearly intended for children (like everything they do), which does not prevent them from having great pieces, accessories and scenics, which could perfectly be sold in the store of a museum of natural sciences. The animals are made with very good taste. In our case, we have played a lot and it is thanks to them that we can make these little sign or respect to other subjects.

La serie de los dinosaurios dePlaymobil es, en nuestra humilde opinión, una de las mejores series que han producido en estos últimos años. Están claramente destinados al público infantil (como todo lo que hacen), lo que no impide que cuenten con estupendas piezas, accesorios y decorados, que perfectamente se podrían comercializar en la tienda de un museo de ciencias naturales. Los animales están hechos con muy buen gusto. En nuestro caso se han jugado mucho y es gracias a ellos, que podemos hacer estos pequeños guiños a otros temas.

Our friends decided that it was better to keep the discovery secret, but the professor kept some of the photographs of the expedition and devoted his last years to painting the memories of that fantastic adventure. Now they come to light and here we leave them in case you want to take a look.

Nuestros amigos decidieron que era mejor mantener el descubrimiento en secreto, pero el profesor guardó alguna de las fotografías de la expedición y dedicó sus últimos años a pintar los recuerdos de aquella fantástica aventura. PLAYMOBIL DIORAMA BATTLE OF THE TEUTOBURG FOREST

You had invited to us to do some battle scene within the Roman cycle. We can not aspire to recreate anything that supposes putting a big Roman formation in all its splendor. We just do not have enough Romans, that it's the problem of having a few of everything. However, we thought that we could recreate something that could be fairly decent without having to call to a "mass recruitment".

Nos habíais sugerido hacer alguna escena de batalla dentro del ciclo romano. No podemos aspirar a recrear nada que suponga poner a una formación romana en todo su esplendor. Simplemente no tenemos suficientes romanos, es el problema de darle a todo un poco. No obstante, pensamos que podíamos recrear algo que pudiera quedar medianamente digno sin tener que recurrir a un “reclutamiento masivo”.

The Battle of the Teutoburg Forest is one of the most famous defeats of the imperial era. Arminius is responsible for such a disaster, a Querusci commander raised in Rome, who managed to annihilate three Roman legions directing them to an ambush. The Romans accustomed to marching along the roads and fighting in open fields went into the lion's den thinking that they were taking by a shortcut. Once inside the forest, they had to march in a long narrow line, which was attacked by both flanks without the possibility of applying their combat techniques. The Germanics, who had been waiting for so long, had no mercy.

La batalla del bosque de Teutoburgo es uno de las derrotas más sonadas de la época imperial. El responsable de tal desastre es Arminio, un caudillo querusco criado en Roma, que consiguió aniquilar tres legiones romanas dirigiéndolas a una emboscada. Los romanos acostumbrados a marchar por las calzadas y luchar en campo abierto se metieron en la boca del lobo pensando que los llevaban por un atajo. Una vez dentro del bosque, tuvieron que marchar en una larga y estrecha fila, que fue atacada por ambos flancos sin posibilidad de aplicar sus técnicas de combate. Los germanos, que les tenían muchas ganas, no tuvieron piedad.

We have tried to capture the tension of the moment. Surprised legionaires have broken their ranks and small groups of soldiers have formed in the few clearings in the forest. Among the trees, Germanic warriors suddenly appear, whose cries frighten and disconcert even more the legionaries, who have grouped themselves around their banner. It is the defense of their last stand.

Hemos intentado captar la tensión del momento. Las legiones sorprendidas han roto sus filas y se han formado pequeños grupos de soldados agrupados en los pocos claros que hay en el bosque. De entre los arboles aparecen subitamente guerreros germanos cuyos gritos atemorizan y desconciertan aún más a los legionarios, que se han agrupado en torno a su estandarte. To get the effect of the different heights, we have again resorted to cushions and mats. The plastic plate of the center serves us so that the figures remain standing between so much mess, forming the main scene. The vegetation placed in different heights tries to create the effect of the leafy and wild forest. The figures are close together to give that feeling of melee.

Para conseguir el efecto de las diferentes alturas, otra vez hemos recurrido a los cojines y colchonetas. La plancha de plástico del centro nos sirve para que las figuras se queden en pie entre tanto lío, formando la escena principal. La vegetación colocada en diferentes alturas intenta crear el efecto del bosque frondoso y salvaje. Las figuras están muy juntas para dar esa sensación de melé.

Our Gallic warriors today have become Germanic and they have made us the solution. Even our Druid is watching the battle.

Nuestros guerreros galos hoy se han vuelto germanos y nos han hecho el apaño. Hasta el druida está pendiente de la batalla.

The episode of Arminius and the Teutoburg forest has been very used and distorted by nationalism. For us it only has the historical interest, and suggests a surprising connection with a key figure in Germanic mythology: Sigurd and the treasure of the Nibelungen. But that is different story and it will be the subject of another post in the next future.

El episodio de Arminio y el bosque Teutoburgo ha sido muy manoseado y distorsionado por el nacionalismo. Para nosotros solamente tiene el intéres histórico, y nos sugiere una conexión sorprendente con una figura clave en la mitología germana: Sigfrido y el tesoro de los nibelungos. Pero eso es otra historia y será el contenido de otra entrada en el futuro.

PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM HOPLITES & OTHER GREEK CHARACTERS

When we made our Playmobil custom Greek gods, we prepared some more characters on the subject that we started with the Playmobil Custom Greek Gods. The arrival of the figure of the series 11, it has been a great gift that many of us were waiting for. You can find problems on it, because the shield and the helmet are far from having captured the essence of the great pieces of Playmobil. But it is alright.

Al tiempo que hicimos nuestros dioses griegos, preparamos algunos personajes más sobre el tema que presentaros ahora. La aparición de la figura de la serie 11, has sido un gran regalo que muchos estábamos esperando. Como todo, se le pueden poner problemas, pues el escudo y el casco están lejos de haber captado la esencia que tienen otras piezas de Playmobil.

We have the lucky of could get with some mystery figures some time ago and we hope that they and the Greek gods will be a part of a great series in the next future. The odyssey of Ulysses (Odysseus), The Trojan horse, The minotaur's labyrinth, The journey of the Argo, The twelve works of Heracles (Hercules) are just some of the issues that come to our head. I'm sure it would be an attractive subject for children, and it would not hurt to have a direct access to mythology and classic stories, especially with the bombing we are having with the mythology of new creation (Batman, Wolverine, The Incredible Hulk ...) I believe that they can find some creative characters with whom to compete for a while.

Por suerte para nosotros, nos pudimos hacer con algunos sobres en su momento y esperamos que junto con los dioses formen parte de alguna serie en el futuro. El tiempo lo dirá. La odisea de Ulises (Odiseo), El caballo de Troya, El laberinto del minotauro, El viaje del Argo, Los doce trabajos de Heracles (Hércules) son solo algunos de los temas que vienen a nuestra cabeza. Estoy seguro que sería un tema atractivo para los niños, y no les vendría mal tener un acceso directo a la mitología y las historias clásicas, sobre todo con el bombardeo que estamos teniendo con la mitología de nueva creación (Batman, Lobezno, El increíble Hulk…). Desde luego personajes creativos con los que competir habría para rato.

It would not be fair to make an entry on the subject without mentioning the excellent pieces that Playmalone manufactures, without which it would have been impossible to enjoy so many fantastic creations of other fans. A Master.

No sería justo hacer una entrada sobre el tema sin hacer mención a las excelentes piezas que fabrica Playmalone, sin las que habría sido imposible disfrutar de tantas creaciones fantásticas de otros aficionados. Un maestro.

For now we have enough making some figures and loose scenes on the subject. Our Jason's post, are a good way to introduce yourself to the subject. Fortunately, Playmobil had previously released a large number of the Romans and the Egyptians boxes, who make many compatible pieces, which are also easily found. With this material as a base we have dared to make some characters, like this philosopher, who also could well be a young Homer.

Por ahora nos conformamos con montar algunas figuras y escenas sueltas sobre el tema. Entradas como la de Jasón, son una buena forma de introducirse en el tema. Afortunadamente Playmobil había sacado previamente multitud de referencias de los romanos y los egipcios que hacen que existan muchas piezas compatibles, que además se encuentran fácilmente. Con ese material como base nos hemos atrevido a hacer algún personaje, como este filósofo, que bien podría ser también un joven Homero.

WE LOVE IT! ROBINSON CRUSOE

The first step to make a post is to include it in a list which we periodically add new ideas that we would like to make. Writing it serves as a great help, first to begin to delve into the subject, find information, make notes and sketches of what we want to make and finally to inventory all those pieces that we will need to carry out that project.

Para que lleguemos a hacer una entrada, antes debe formar parte de una lista que vamos elaborando y a la que añadimos periódicamente nuevas ideas que nos gustaría acometer. Escribirlo nos sirve de gran ayuda, primero para empezar a profundizar en el tema, buscar información, hacer anotaciones y bocetos de lo que queremos hacer y por último para inventariar todas aquellas piezas que necesitaremos para llevar a buen fin ese proyecto.

Ideas come from a film, a documentary, an image that we have seen on the web, something we have read or the work of other collectors. We write it and with time, we are adding and commenting ideas. Sometimes they remain "frozen" until we watch a piece that triggers the idea to begin to be feasible.

Las ideas surgen de una película, un documental, una imagen que hemos visto en la red, algo que hemos leído o del trabajo de otros aficionados. Quedan anotadas y con el tiempo, vamos añadiendo y comentando ideas. A veces permanecen “congeladas” hasta que vemos una pieza que desencadena que la idea comience a ser factible.

We had for a long time the idea of make something about ​​Robinson Crusoe, and we have had many Robinsons in our adventures, almost as many as Playmobil has taken throughout all this time. References like the 3799, 3861 and the most recent 5138 or 6679 are very good examples of the great pieces that have been manufactured during these years.

La idea de Robinson Crusoe la tenemos apuntada desde hace tiempo, y hemos tenido muchos robinsones en nuestras aventuras, casi tantos como Playmobil ha sacado a lo largo de todo este tiempo. Referencias como la 3799, 3861 y las más recientes 5138 o 6679 son muy buenos ejemplos de las estupendas piezas que se han fabricado durante estos años.

The story was written in 1719 by Daniel Defoe and is considered the first English novel. It is known that he took as a basis for the book the story of two real shipwrecks: Alexander Selkirk and Pedro Serrano.

La historia fue escrita en 1719 por Daniel Defoe y es considerada la primera novela inglesa. Se sabe que tomó como base para el libro la historia de dos naúfragos reales: Alexander Selkirk y Pedro Serrano.

It is a book that I was lucky enough to read as a child and that I had a good memory, despite not remembering almost nothing of its original content, totally distorted by the multitude of film versions that have been contaminating my memory. I can only say that I have read some passages again thanks to this post. In them I have found deep reflections on the meaning of life and some philosophical thoughts that make it something more than a mere adventure novel.

Es un libro que tuve la suerte de leer de pequeño y del que guardaba un buen recuerdo, a pesar de no recordar ya casi nada de su contenido original, totalmente distorsionado por la multitud de versiones cinematográficas que han ido contaminando mi memoria. Solamente puedo decir que he vuelto a leer algunos pasajes gracias a esta entrada. En ellos he encontrado profundas reflexiones sobre el sentido de la vida que demuestran gran clarividencia y que hacen que sea algo más que una mera novela de aventuras. 

As a tribute, we have recreated a small scene with our characters. It is a "fast diorama", in which we wanted to get a feeling of wild and greeny jungle. We could not miss the house that Robinson built with his small palisade, which surrounds the cave. It stores all the objects he was able to rescue from the shipwreck and the small corral with the goats he managed to tame. Robinson is accompanied, how could it be otherwise, by his faithful dog and Friday.

Como tributo, hemos recreado un pequeño escenario con nuestros personajes. Se trata de un "diorama rápido", en el que queríamos conseguir una sensación de selva frondosa y salvaje. No podía faltar la casa que construyó Robinson con su pequeña empalizada, que rodea la cueva. En ella se almacenan todos los objetos que pudo rescatar del naufragio y el pequeño corral con las cabras que consiguió domesticar. A Robinson le acompañan, como no podía ser de otra forma, su fiel perro y Viernes.
