WE LOVE IT! SOME VIKING BOOKS

Here we offer you some recommendations for those who are enjoying the summer and have time available to learn about Vikings. Not only to buy, one of them is a PDF so you can enjoy it free cost. For those who do not want to spend, we also remind you that the municipal libraries are full of jewels in which to find some inspiration.

Aquí os traemos unas recomendaciones para los que estéis disfrutando del verano y tengáis tiempo disponible para dedicarle. Es este caso son unos libros sobre vikingos. Como todo no es comprar, uno de ellos está en PDF para que podáis disfrutarlo. Para aquellos que no quieran gastar, también os recordamos que las bibliotecas municipales están llenas de joyas en las que encontrar algo de inspiración.

The first book, or better yet almost a comic, was already recommended by one of our readers in a previous post, is "Harald, the last Viking" the first in a collection (Historietas) of historical disclosure aimed at children and young people, but that will also delight adults who come. It is a collaboration between DESPERTA FERRO Ediciones and El Fisgón Histórico, which we hope will have a long life. It relates the life of the last viking pretender to the kingdom of England: Harald Hardrada. The pictures are fantastic. Only the edition in Spanish is available. (Approximate price 18 euros).

El primer libro, o mejor casi un comic, ya estaba recomendado por uno de nuestros lectores en una entrada anterior, es “Harald, el último vikingo” el primero de una colección (Historietas) de divulgación histórica enfocada al público infantil y juvenil, pero que hará también las delicias de los adultos que se acerquen. Se trata de una colaboración entre DESPERTA FERRO Ediciones y El Fisgón histórico, que esperamos tenga una larga vida. Relata  la vida del último pretendiente vikingo al reino de Inglaterra: Harald Hardrada. Las imágenes son fantásticas. Únicamente está disponible la edición en castellano. (Precio aproximado 18 euros).

Also in more comic format, we have Vikings! by Vincent Carpentier (Editorial NÓRDICA) The illustrator Jeff Pourquié offers us a particular vision of the Viking world, which may be interesting for the most enthusiastic of the subject. In terms of content is a little fall short. There is an edition in French and Spanish. (Approximate price 17 euros).

También en formato más de comic, tenemos a Vikingos! de Vincent Carpentier (Editorial NÓRDICA) El ilustrador Jeff Pourquié nos ofrece una visión particular del mundo vikingo, que puede resultar interesante para los más forofos del tema. En cuanto a contenido, se nos ha quedado un poco corto. Existe edición en francés y castellano. (Precio aproximado 17 euros).

As an alternative and for a similar price, we offer you "Demonios del Norte" (Devils of the North)  by Edaf, witten by Carlos Canales and Miguel del Rey. In this case, we have a very complete combination of data and images that can make this book a great companion for vacations. We only know the Spanish edition. (Approximate price 24 euros).

Como alternativa y por un precio similar os ofrecemos “Demonios del Norte” de Edaf, de Carlos Canales y Miguel del Rey. En este caso, tenemos una combinación muy completa de datos e imágenes que pueden hacer de este libro un estupendo compañero para las vacaciones. Solo conocemos la edición española. (Precio aproximado 24 euros).

Our fourth recommendation is an old, discontinued book that we found in PDF format in a blog. This is "A través del tiempo, Los Vikingos" whose original is "Time Traveler Book of Viking Raiders" (1978 Usborne) We greatly appreciate that there are people dedicated to make available to the reader these gems that are very difficult to find (and free cost). It is full of very interesting illustrations that we hope you find useful.

Nuestra cuarta recomendación es un libro antiguo, descatalogado que hemos encontrado en formato PDF en un blog. Se trata de “A través del tiempo, los Vikingos" cuyo original es “Time Traveller Book of Viking Raiders” (1978 Usborne). Agradecemos enormemente que haya gente dedicada a poner a disposición del lector estas joyitas que son difíciles de encontrar y gratis. Está lleno de ilustraciones muy interesantes que esperamos os resulten de utilidad.

PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM SUPER 4

The Playmobil Super 4 series has been a before and an after for our favorite brand. Playmobil had already bet on the sale of a "new type of figures" with the new Indians of the series of western of 2012. But the appearance in 2015 of these characters did not leave anyone indifferent. We, as simple amateurs, attend with some amusement the generalized indignation that produced its appearance among the most "orthodox" followers. I think the softest thing was cataloging these "anti-Playmobil" figures and there was a concern about the "apocalypse of Playmobil" that was to come. Three years have passed and it seems that things have gone back to normal. The arrival of licenses such as Dragons, Ghostbusters or Spirit have made the Super 4 figures almost seem normal.

La serie de Playmobil Super 4 ha supuesto un antes y un después para nuestra marca favorita. Playmobil ya había apostado por la venta de un “nuevo tipo de figuras” con los indios de la serie sobre el Oeste de 2012. Pero la aparición en 2015 de estos personajes no dejó a nadie indiferente. Nosotros, como simples aficionados, asistimos con cierto divertimento a la indignación generalizada que produjo su aparición entre los seguidores más "ortodoxos". Creo que de lo más suave fue catalogar estas figuras de “anti Playmobil” y se hablaba con preocupación del “apocalipsis Playmobil” que estaba por venir. Han pasado tres años y parece que las aguas han vuelto a su cauce. La llegada de las licencias como Dragons, Cazafantasmas o Spirit han conseguido que los Super 4 casi parezcan normales.  

In our opinion the series has been a blessing, especially when it comes to the medieval and pirate theme. His contribution in interesting pieces for these themes is undeniable and we hope that they will continue to contribute new ideas in the future. We are still thinking about giving some use to figures as complicated as the Sykronians of reference 9411.

En nuestra opinión la serie ha sido una bendición, sobre todo en lo que al tema medieval y de piratas se refiere. Su aportación en piezas interesantes para estas temáticas es innegable y esperamos que nos sigan aportando nuevas ideas en el futuro. Todavía estamos pensando en dar algún uso a figuras tan complicadas de encajar como los Sykronianos de la referencia 9411. 

Any ideas? I think they would fit superbly as "the visitors" (lizards) of the television series of the 80s "V". It will be necessary to look for some mice so that they do not go hungry.

¿Alguna idea? Creo que encajarían estupendamente como "los visitantes" (lagartos) de la serie de televisión de los años 80 "V". Habrá que buscar unos ratones para que no pasen hambre.

Meanwhile, we have entertained ourselves in reviewing some figures and expanding our troop of knights, based on what we have found available in flea markets or in the Direct Service at a good price. And we think that it can be a good alternative to the medieval figures that are appearing lately in envelopes and boxes and that have not just had "that touch" Playmobil before (in our humble opinion).

Mientras tanto, nos hemos entretenido en revisar algunas figuras y ampliar nuestra tropa de caballeros, tomando como base lo que hemos encontrado disponible en mercadillos o en el DS a buen precio. Y pensamos que puede ser una buena alternativa a las figuras medievales que están apareciendo últimamente en sobres y en cajas y que  no acaban de tener "ese toque" Playmobil de antes (en nuestra humilde opinión).

WE LOVE IT! THE SAGA OF BIORN - SIGURDR - VIKING

Some of you will have thought that we have forgotten about the Vikings with so many posts about Romans and Greeks. Not so, the Viking inside us is still alive and is waiting to recreate new adventures. To find that inspiration, from time to time, we look for this subject on YouTube. This post will be rare to some of you, but we wanted to share these great videos, which we have found hanging on the net and that help us find ideas for our adventures. Although they are in English they do not need translation.

Algunos pensaréis que nos hemos olvidado de los vikingos con tantas entradas de romanos y griegos. No es así, el vikingo que llevamos dentro sigue vivo y está esperando para recrear nuevas aventuras. Para buscar esa inspiración, de vez en cuando, buscamos algún tema que nos interesa en sitios como YouTube. Esta entrada os resultará raro a algunos, pero queríamos compartir estos estupendos videos, que hemos encontrado colgados en la red y que nos sirven para encontrar ideas para nuestras aventuras. Aunque están en inglés no necesitan traducción.

The first one is "The Saga Of Biorn", it is a project developed in 2011 by The Animation Workshop. It's an 8 minute wonder for all audiences, with a surprising ending. We had not laughed so much in a long time. Great!

El primero es “The Saga Of Biorn”, se trata de un proyecto elaborado en 2011 por The Animation Workshop. Es una maravilla de 8 minutos para todos los públicos, con un final sorprendente. Hacía tiempo que no nos reíamos tanto. ¡Fantástico!

The second one is "SIGURDR" (Siegfried). Aimed at an older audience, it is a great recreation, which has captivated us.

El segundo es  “SIGURDR” (Sigfrido). Dirigido a un público más mayor, es una estupenda recreación, que nos ha cautivado.

 

The third one is "VIKING", a short animation but with some very interesting action details.

El tercer video es “VIKING”, una animación corta pero con algunos detalles de acción muy interesantes.

PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM LATE ROMAN ARMY

We love the Romans series of Playmobil and we wanted to make some custom figures that could fit better in our adventures. We really wanted to make some Roman soldiers from the late Empire. We will not give much information, because our ignorance of the subject is too big. Basically the Roman Empire began its fall motivated mainly by the pressure of the barbarian (foreign) peoples who were harassing its borders. The division between the Empire of the East (Byzantium) and the West was the finishing touch.

Los romanos de Playmobil nos encantan y queríamos hacer algunas figuras que pudieran encajar mejor en la periferia del imperio. Nos apetecía mucho hacer algunos soldados romanos de la época tardía del imperio. No vamos a dar muchos datos, pues nuestra ignorancia del tema es grande. Básicamente el Imperio Romano comenzó su decadencia motivado principalmente por la presión de los pueblos bárbaros (extranjeros) que estuvieron hostigando sus fronteras. La división entre el Imperio de Oriente (Bizancio) y Occidente fue la puntilla.

The changes in the structure of the army, especially the admission of barbarians, were also cause of the acceleration of the process of fall, because the Empire was unable to defend itself. A fact that we did not know and that we discovered is that this massive migration was caused by a climate change that brought a small "ice age" in northern Europe in the year 200, causing the migratory movement towards the south of the barbarian lands.

Los cambios en la estructura del ejército, sobre todo la admisión de extranjeros en el mismo, fueron también causa de la aceleración del proceso de decadencia, pues el Imperio fue incapaz de defenderse adecuadamente. Un dato que no teníamos y que descubrimos en un documental es que, en gran parte, esa migración masiva estaba provocada por un cambio climático que trajo una pequeña “edad de hielo” a la Europa septentrional a partir del año 200, provocando el movimiento migratorio hacia al sur de los pueblos bárbaros.

The references are all attractive, Attila, Huns, Alaric, Burgundians, Visigoths, Franks, the Battle of Adrianopolis... many of them will later form part of medieval songs and legends.

Las referencias son todas atractivas, Atila, hunos, Alarico, burgundios, visigodos, francos, la batalla de Adrianopolis… muchas de ellas formarán posteriormente parte de cantares y leyendas medievales.

To create our figures we have used medieval figures, to which we have added elements of the Romans. For the shields we have used again the great stickers of Playstickers, which make the impossible easy to be done. We think that the results are quite good.

Para crear nuestras figuras hemos utilizado de base figuras medievales, a las que les hemos añadido elementos de los romanos. Para los escudos hemos recurrido a las estupendas pegatinas de Playstickers, que nos hacen fácil lo imposible. Nos parece que para ser una primera aproximación están bastante bien. 

Although there may be some more posts in the next future, we finish our trip around  the Roman theme. We hope you liked it.

PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM CELTIC AND GERMANIC WARRIORS

Each time a new Playmobil series appears, we take advantage of these new pieces to review (as far as possible) our figures. It is a game that is very interesting because it lets us to have always "different figures". Our Gauls (or Celts or Germanic people) have been growing little by little during these years. The first figures were the original references of the Playmobil Direct Service (7923 and 7924) . Later we expanded a few figures that we introduce to you in a monographic post. Even more later, our version of the battle chariot. And finally, this review to which we have added the great Gaul shields of Playstickers. You can see our evolution and judge the result. We are delighted.

Cada vez que aparece una serie nueva de Playmobil, aprovechamos esas nuevas piezas para revisar (en la medida de lo posible) nuestras figuras. Es un juego que nos resulta muy interesante pues nos permite tener siempre “figuras diferentes”. Nuestros galos (o celtas o germanos) han ido creciendo poco a poco durante estos años. Las primeras fueron las referencias originales del DS (7923 y 7924), más tarde ampliamos unas cuantas figuras que os presentamos en una entradamonográfica, posteriormente nuestra versión del carro de combate y por último, esta revisión a la que hemos añadido los estupendos escudos galos de Playstickers. Podéis ver nuestra evolución y juzgar el resultado. Nosotros estamos encantados.
