PLAYMOBIL DIORAMA KIEVAN RUS (I)

Our Vikings are our favorite figures. We return to improve them whenever we can. One subject that we had not tried until now was the eastern part of the Viking invasions. Vikings expanded with the same intensity towards the East, taking advantage of the great navigable rivers. They founded the Kievan Rus (in what is now Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine) and arrived at the gates of Constantinople in its commercial expansion and conquest.

Nuestros vikingos siguen siendo nuestras figuras preferidas. Volvemos a ellos para incorporar y mejorar las figuras cada vez que podemos. Un tema que no habíamos tocado hasta ahora era la parte oriental de las invasiones vikingas. Los vikingos se expandieron con la misma intensidad hacia el este, aprovechando los grandes ríos navegables. Fundaron la Rus de Kiev  (en lo que hoy es Rusia, Bielorusia y Ucrania) y llegaron hasta las mismas puertas de Constantinopla en su expansión comercial y de conquista.

In this post and the next one, we will try to recreate subjects that have to do with all this and we will also introduce some figures that we have made especially on the subject.

En la entrada de hoy y en la  próxima, vamos intentar representar temas que tienen que ver con todo ello y además os vamos a presentar algunas figuras que hemos hecho expresamente sobre el tema.

We have used two patterns in the figures. On the one hand, the fur hat (one of our favorite pieces of Playmobil), which fortunately is still available in its catalog. On the other side the mixture of pieces of Vikings with oriental elements such as Chinese helmets or curved swords. It's just a small troop but we like the result. Having new colors and alternatives give us a lot of possibilities to improve the figures.

Para las figuras hemos utilizado dos patrones. Por un lado, el sombrero de piel (una de nuestras piezas preferidas de Playmobil), que afortunadamente sigue viva en su catálogo. Por otro la mezcla de piezas de vikingos con elementos orientales como los cascos chinos o las espadas curvas. Es solo una pequeña tropa pero nos gusta el resultado.  Disponer de nuevos colores y alternativas nos dan mucho juego para mejorar las figuras.

As we are in our series of ports, we include a small diorama that recreates an improvised harbor in one of the great rivers of Eastern Europe. There come ships to trade with materials brought from far away and especially to trade with slaves that, although today we may be scandalized, was a market with much demand in that area during the Middle Ages.

Como estamos dentro de la serie de los puertos, tenemos un diorama que recrea un puesto improvisado en alguno de los grandes ríos de la Europa Oriental. Allí llegan barcos para comerciar con materiales traídos desde muy lejos y sobre todo para comerciar con esclavos que, aunque hoy nos pueda escandalizar, era un mercado con mucha demanda en aquella zona durante la Edad Media.

There we can find Vikings from different origins and our new Rus or Varangians that already have that aesthetic with that oriental look.

Allí podemos encontrar a Vikingos de diferentes procedencias y a nuestros nuevos Rus, Ruses o Varegos que ya tienen esa estética con ese aire tan oriental.
