Celtas, pueblos del Pasado. Su autor es Robin Place. Otra maravilla de libro, lleno de preciosas ilustraciones que harán que queráis montar vuestra aldea celta. Una guía detallada que recomiendo comprar, y que es ideal para encontrar inspiración para vuestras aventuras en la Europa de la caída del Imperio Romano. Ya no hacen libros como estos. Esperamos que os gusten.

A detailed guide to your adventures in Europe from the fall of the Roman Empire. They do not make books like these anymore. We hope you like them.

REVIEW: SAXONS, PEOPLES OF THE PAST

¿Un libro de sajones? ¿Con ilustraciones? No hemos tomado ninguna droga. Desde luego, tiene que ser de otro tiempo. Los Sajones, pueblos del pasado, fantástico repaso a su historia. Os lo recomendamos comprar absolutamente. Nosotros lo hemos disfrutado muchísimo. Una manera divertida de aprender historia, leer y documentarse. Un regalo perfecto para los jóvenes y no tan jóvenes. Su autor es Tony D. Triggs.

A book of Saxons? Full of illustrations? We have not taken any drugs. Of course, it has to be from another time. Saxons, peoples of the past, wonderful. We absolutely recommend it. We have enjoyed it immensely. A fun way to learn history, read and document. A perfect gift for the young and not so young. The author is Tony D. Triggs.

REVIEW: NORMANS, PEOPLES OF THE PAST

Normandos, pueblos del pasado. Otro maravilloso libro de historia de la colección “Pueblos del pasado” para comprar, que en este caso se dedica a los Normandos y su forma de vida. Lleno de magníficas ilustraciones, os dará una amplia visión histórica del tema y os permitirá encontrar pistas para seguir investigando sobre la presencia de los normandos en Europa y fuera de ella. Su autor es Patrick Rooke. Imprescindible para los amantes de la historia y del periodo.

Normans, peoples of the past. Another wonderful book to buy of the collection "Peoples of the past", which in this case is dedicated to the Normans. Full of magnificent illustrations, it will give you a broad historical view of the subject and will allow you to find clues for further investigation. the author is Patrick Rooke. A must for lovers of history and the Norman period.

PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM: DRAGONS (HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON) 2017 (II)

Estamos ya esperando comprar las novedades de la licencia Dragons (How to train your dragon) 2017 de Playmobil. Hemos tenido la oportunidad de poder comprar las nuevas cabezas de la referencia 9245 ("Bocón el rudo" con catapulta). Estábamos un poco mosqueados con los cambios de color de los pelos en las nuevas figuras, porque pensábamos que sería un problema personalizarlos. Pero ahora tenemos que reconocer que “todo lo que viene conviene” porque nos ha sorprendido su versatilidad.

Hemos intentado sacarle partido a las piezas y ver sus posibilidades y nos han salido varios customs bastante interesantes.  A ver qué os parecen.

En primer lugar el pelo. El tono es el que ahora se denomina “light yellow”. A primera vista el corte de pelo puede resultar un poco chasco… Nada vikingo, es cierto, pero mirándolo con buenos ojos es un pelo normando excelente. Mirad que bien le queda a nuestro Draco. ¡Alucinante!

En segundo lugar las barbas, y siguiendo con nuestras investigaciones probamos con el pelo de la ref. 5562 de Playmobil (castores con mochilero), que habíamos pillado en un mercadillo. Le encaja perfecto. Mirad que resultado. ¡Magnífico! ¡Menudo vikingo! ¡Gracias Playmobil!

Como no podíamos parar, seguimos buscando pelos con ese tono “light yellow”. Y nos acordamos también de una figura que habíamos comprado en cantidad en los mercadillos y que correspondía a la referencia del Playmobil Direct Service 6383 (caballeros del lobo). Ese pelo le sienta fenomenal. ¡Otro éxito!

Por último, una combinación para nuestros enanos, con cota de malla. ¡Menudo potencial!

Aunque seguimos pensando que la serie podría haber dado mucho más juego, estamos muy satisfechos  y todavía hay muchas piezas por probar. ¿Qué os parece?

We are already waiting for the new pieces of the license Dragons (How to train your dragon) 2017 of Playmobil. We had a chance to try out the new 9245 heads. We were a bit flustered with the hair color changes in the new figures, because we thought it would be a problem to combine them. But now we have to recognize that they are "a glove-like fit" because we have been surprised by its versatility.

We have tried to take advantage of the pieces and see their possibilities and we have come out several combinations. Check what they look like.

First the hair. The tone is what is now called "light yellow". At first glance the haircut can be a little disappointing ... Not Viking, it is true, but looking at it with good eyes is an excellent Norman hair. Look how good it is for our Draco. Amazing!

Secondly the beards, and following with our investigations we tried with the hair of the ref. 5562, that we had caught in a flea market. It fits you perfectly. Look at that result. Magnificent! What a Viking! Thanks Playmobil!

As we could not stop, we continued looking for hairs with that tone "light yellow". And we remember also a figure that we had bought in quantity in the markets and that corresponded to the reference 6383. That hair looks like phenomenal. Another winning combination!

Finally, a composition for our dwarves, with chainmail. What a warrior!

Although we continue to think that the series could have given much more pieces, we are very satisfied and there are still many new pieces to try. What do you think?

REVIEW: VIKINGS, PEOPLES OF THE PAST

Los Vikingos, pueblos del pasado. Empezamos aquí una serie corta de posts con unos libros que queremos recomendar comprar. Se trata de una colección corta que en España se llamó “Pueblos del pasado” y que comenzó a editarse a finales de los 70. La editorial Española es Molino. Aún se pueden comprar a buen precio (entre 5 y 25 euros) y son pequeños tesoros que guardan fantásticas ilustraciones y contenidos educativos sobre la vida en diferentes periodos de la historia. El autor de este volumen es Michael Gibson y habéis visto muchas ilustraciones en nuestro blog. En la siguiente entrada os presentaremos el libro de los normandos. Esperamos que os guste.

The Vikings, peoples of the past. We started here a short series of posts related to some of our favourite books that we want to recommend to you. “Peoples of the past” is a short collection that started to beginning to be published in the late 70's. The UK publisher is MACDONALD. They can still be found at a good price (between 5 and 25 euros) and they are small treasures that hold interesting illustrations and educational content. The author is Michael Gibson and you have seen many illustrations on our blog. In the next post we talk about the Norman volume. We hope you like it.

PLAYMOBIL DIORAMA – VIKING BLACKSMITH & SWORDS

Nos habían dejado muy buen sabor de boca las espadas vikingas personalizadas que había hecho Aleluya. Son unas espadas magníficas. Nosotros no teníamos tiempo, ni medios a la mano, pero nos pudieron las ganas. Hemos utilizado las espadas de fantasía de Playmobil, que hasta hoy no han tenido sentido en nuestras aventuras. Con muchas ganas y poca mano, hemos ido haciendo y probando diferentes modelos. Como las espadas originales son doradas hemos pintado las hojas y los mangos con rotuladores permanentes. Sabemos que no son de diez, pero salen muy baratas y son rápidas de hacer. Aprovechando, hemos hecho un par de hachas y un casco.

Para ambientar la escena, también hemos personalizado un par de herreros. La idea de utilizar los brazos musculosos nos la dio Neperiano, con su vikingo de Playmobil figures serie 11. El nuestro es moreno, aprovechando un pirata que compramos de desguace. 

Aquí tenemos representada una escena común en la vieja Europa de los vikingos. Aunque estaba expresamente recogida en las leyes (desde tiempos de los romanos) la prohibición de vender armas a los vikingos, algunos herreros francos seguían manteniendo un comercio de espadas y armas debido a que se trataba de un negocio muy lucrativo. En el mercado europeo del siglo X una espada era el equivalente a 16 vacas lecheras. Y las espadas francas eran de la mejor calidad.

Así que nuestros vikingos, que se han adentrado en las tierras de “Frankia” buscando el taller del herrero “Ulfberth”, cargan una gran cantidad de oro y plata para pagar este gran lote de armas. No les importa, puesto que con ellas en la mano podrán saquear a placer y recuperar su precio rápidamente.

Por último, os ponemos unos “selfies” de algunos vikingos pertrechados con su armamento de élite. Esperamos que os gusten.

We really enjoy the custom Viking swords that Aleluya had made. They are magnificent swords. We did not have the time, nor the means at hand, but we were able to make some. We have used the fantasy swords from Playmobil, which until today have not made sense in our adventures. With great desire and fat hands, we have been doing and trying different models. As the original swords are gold we have painted the swords with permanent markers. We know they are not getting a AAA, but they come out very cheap and quick to make. Taking advantage, we have made a pair of axes and a helmet.

To create a scene, we have also customized a pair of blacksmiths. The idea of using the muscular arms was given by Neperiano, with his custom Viking warrior using  Playmobil figures series 11. Ours is dark brown skin, using a pirate we bought from scrapping.

Here we have represented a common scene in the old Europe of the Vikings. Although it was expressly stated in the laws (since Roman times) prohibition of selling weapons to the Vikings, some smiths of Frankia continued to trade swords and weapons because it was a very lucrative business. In the 10th century European market a sword was the equivalent of 16 dairy cows. And the frank swords were of the best quality.

So our Vikings, who have entered the lands of "Frankia" looking for the blacksmith's workshop "Ulfberth", carry a large amount of gold and silver to pay for this great batch of weapons. They do not care, since with them in the hand they can loot at will and recover their price quickly.

REVIEW: PETER JACKSON

Peter Charles Geoffrey Jackson (1922–2003) es uno de esos artistas, que aunque desarrolló su trabajo como ilustrador de tiras de periódico y revistas, se puede considerar un auténtico pintor. Su trabajo más conocido fue para el London Evening News, cuya tira “London is stranger than fiction” dibujo semanalmente desde 1949 a 1981. Se le considera un erudito de la historia de Londres, que tan bien supo plasmar en sus magníficas ilustraciones. Nosotros le reverenciamos por sus ilustraciones históricas dedicadas a los normandos, que realizó para el público infantil y juvenil en las revistas “Look and learn” y “Treasure”. Os vamos a dejar unas cuantas imágenes para que podáis ver el buen gusto que tenía. Una fuente inagotable de inspiración para nosotros.

Peter Charles Geoffrey Jackson (1922-2003) is one of those artists, who although developed his work as an illustrator of newspaper strips and magazines, can be considered a real painter. His best known work was for the London Evening News, whose strip "London is stranger than fiction" drawing weekly from 1949 to 1981. He is considered a scholar of the history of London, who so well knew to portray in his magnificent illustrations. We revere him for his historical illustrations dedicated to the Normans, which he made for children and young people in the magazines "Look and learn" and "Treasure". We are going to leave a few images so that you can see the good taste that he had. An inexhaustible source of inspiration for us.
