PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM – 3632 REVISITED

Me encanta esta caja. La idea de hacer unos gitanos con un oso amaestrado solamente se le puede ocurrir a nuestra marca preferida. Supongo que sería idea de Hans Beck. Hoy sería imposible, por el oso digo. Se le echarían encima todas las asociaciones de maltrato animal.

Nuestra revisión intenta ir un poco más allá y ha tratado de remarcar los rasgos de nuestros zíngaros. Hemos utilizado piezas de los indios y de los egipcios para conseguir esos colores más acordes a unos gitanos expuestos a las inclemencias del tiempo. Los accesorios se pueden encontrar todos fácilmente, menos el bozal. Espero que os guste.

I love this box. The idea of making some gypsies with a trained bear can only occur to our favorite brand. I suppose it would be Hans Beck's idea. Nowadays it would be impossible, the trained bear I say. All associations of animal abuse would be thrown at him.

Our review tries to go a little further and it has tried to highlight the traits of our gypsies. We have used pieces of the Plain Indians and the Egyptians to get those colors more appropriate to some gypsies exposed to the inclement weather. All accessories can be found all easily, except the muzzle. I hope you like it. 

PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM - PLAYMOLOOK KITE SHIELDS

Pocas veces tiene uno la oportunidad de encontrar una pieza que haya sido creada expresamente para sus aventuras. Los que nos conocéis desde hace tiempo, sabéis que son muchos los proyectos que pasan por nuestra cabeza y que uno de ellos era mejorar el armamento y complementos de nuestras figuras. Y hoy estamos de enhorabuena porque lo hemos conseguido gracias a nuestra amiga Yolanda Marcos de Playmolook.

El escudo de cometa es un complemento que siempre hemos deseado para mejorar nuestras figuras personalizadas. Comenzamos, hace ya tiempo, con unas fantásticas pegatinas de Playstickers que seguimos utilizando tanto para los escudos redondos como de cometa o lágrima.

El escudo de los normandos surge, como casi todas las armas de combate, como reacción a los sistemas de ataque que, con éxito, se habían extendido por Europa desde la llegada de los vikingos. El muro de escudos y la lucha de fuerza cuerpo a cuerpo fueron la revolución bélica de la era vikinga. Era necesario inventar algo nuevo para poder dejar en inferioridad de condiciones al enemigo, y se innovaron dos técnicas que inicialmente podemos atribuir a los normandos: retomar el uso de la caballería como fuerza organizada y el escudo de cometa. Desde que aparecen estas dos novedades los vikingos no vuelven a levantar cabeza en el campo de batalla.

El escudo de cometa está diseñado tanto para el combate a pie como a caballo. Da una cobertura amplia tanto al jinete como al infante y le permite al mismo tiempo el uso de armamento pesado: lanza, maza, hacha y espada. Apoyado en el suelo supera en tamaño al  escudo redondo vikingo. En el caballo protege además la pierna del jinete.

Es sorprendente como son los mismos descendientes de los vikingos los que inventan la manera de neutralizar su eficacia en el combate.

El escudo estaba construido con listones de madera ensambladas, enmarcadas en metal y rematadas con el umbo central. Los escudos menos pudientes tenían la estructura en madera vista o forrados en cuero y según iba mejorando la bolsa de su propietario, tenían diferentes motivos ornamentales (cruces, anímales mitológicos, motivos geométricos…) que les hacían destacar en el campo de batalla.

Lo podemos ver con detalle en el tapiz de Bayeux, que tanto nos gusta para inspirar nuestras aventuras. ¡Qué maravilla!

No podemos pasar sin volver a agradecer a Yolanda el tiempo que ha dedicado a su diseño y a las mejoras que le ha introducido como son la posibilidad de manejar varios colores y texturas que hacen que se trate de una pieza, en nuestra humilde opinión, monumental.

Aquí tenéis algunas de las cosas que hemos hecho con ellas y son solo el comienzo de las aventuras que tenemos en mente. Esperamos que os gusten y os animen a probarlas, ya que están disponibles para todos vosotros.

Playmolook

Few times you have the opportunity to find a piece that has been created expressly for your adventures. Those who have known us for some time know that there are many projects that pass through our heads and one of them was to improve the armament of our figures. Today we are lucky because we finally get it because of the work of our friend Yolanda Marcos of Playmolook.

The kite shield is an add on set that we have always wanted to improve our custom figures. We started long ago with some fantastic PLAYSTICKERS stickers that we continue to use for both round and comet or teardrop shields.

The shield of the Normans emerges, like almost all combat weapons, as a reaction to the systems of attack that had successfully spread throughout Europe since the arrival of the Vikings. The wall of shields and the struggle of force melee were the warlike revolution of the Viking era. It was necessary to invent something new to be able to leave the enemy in inferiority of conditions, and innovated two techniques that we can initially attribute to the Normans: to resume, the use of cavalry as an organized force and the kite shield. Since these two new techniques appear, Vikings do not win again on the battlefield.

The kite shield is designed for both foot and horse combat. It gives wide coverage to both the rider and the infantry and allows him at the same time the use of heavy weapons: spear, mace, ax and sword. Leaning on the ground it surpasses in size to the Vikings round shields. At horse also protects the leg of the rider.

It is surprising how the same descendants of the Vikings invent the way to neutralize their effectiveness in combat.

The shield was constructed with wooden slats assembled and framed in metal and topped with the central umbo. The less wealthy shields had the structure in wood seen or lined in leather and as it was improving the bag of its owner had different ornamental topics (crosses, mythological animals, geometric topics ...) that made them stand out on the battlefield.

We can see it in detail in the tapestry of Bayeux, which we like so much to inspire our adventures. Wonderful!

We can not go on without thanking Yolanda for the time she has spent on her design and for the improvements she has introduced, such as the ability to handle various colors and textures that make it a monumental, humble piece.

REVIEW – THE LEWIS CHESSMEN

Mi hijo mayor me trajo de regalo de Londres un estupendo ajedrez réplica del que se expone en el British Museum. Las piezas son una selección de las 78 piezas que se encontraron en la isla de Lewis (Escocia), junto a 14 tableros y una hebilla perteneciente a una bolsa.

El material de las piezas originales es marfil de morsa y diente de ballena. Parece que su origen es escandinavo y que se hicieron durante el siglo XII. Aunque el origen del ajedrez es el Oriente, se trata de las piezas de ajedrez más antiguas de las que se tiene conocimiento.

Cuando uno tiene las piezas en la mano, no puede dejar de pensar en la forma en la que llegaron allí, seguramente a bordo de un Drakkar. Las figuras representadas son también una inspiración tanto para el tema vikingo como normando. Una maravilla que os recomendamos, y también de paso echar alguna partida de este juego tan antiguo y divertido. ¿Os animáis?

My eldest son brought me a London gift of a great replica chess set from the British Museum. The pieces are a selection of the 78 pieces that were found on the Isle of Lewis (Scotland), along with 14 boards and a buckle belonging to a bag.

The material of the pieces is walrus ivory and whale tooth. It seems that its origin is Scandinavian and that they were made during the XII Century. Although the origin of the chess is the East, it is the oldest pieces of chess known.

When you have the pieces in your hand, you can not help but think about the way those pieces arrived there, probably aboard a Drakkar. The figures represented are also an inspiration for both the Viking and Norman themes. A marvel that we recommend, and also, of course, to play this game so old and fun. Would you like to try?

PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM – SARACENS (III)

Aquí estamos con una nueva entrega de guerreros Sarracenos Playmobil personalizados. Ahora cambiamos el registro al negro. En esta ocasión una combinación con dorados de nuevo y con turbantes.  

Este color oscuro bien podría valer para una partida de guerreros almorávides. Aún hemos hecho alguno más en estos tonos que también os presentaremos. ¿Os gustan?

Here we are with a new delivery of Custom Playmobil Saracens warriors. Now we change the main color to black. This time a combination with golden again and with turbans. This dark color might well be worth for a gang of Almoravid warriors. We have done some more in these tones that we will also present. Do you like them?

REVIEW – MOP ON MAN

No es un acertijo, MOP (Mad on Playmobil) ha visitado el MAN (Museo Arqueológico Nacional). Aunque ya lo hemos visitado varias veces desde su reapertura, el otro día nos pasamos a dar un repaso exhaustivo en busca de referencias. Aquí os dejamos algunos detalles que encontramos  y que nos resultan inspiradores.

Por supuesto hay mucho más por descubrir en él. Y no cuesta dinero. Los sábados por la tarde la entrada es gratuita.

Espero que lo disfrutéis y si tenéis ocasión lo visitéis. Para aquellos que no tengáis la posibilidad os invito a que profundicéis en la red.

Not a riddle, MOP (Mad on Playmobil) has visited the MAN (National Archaeological Museum). Although we have visited it several times since its reopening, the other day we went to give an exhaustive review in search of references. Here we leave some details that we find and that are inspiring.

Of course there is much more to discover in it. And it does not cost money. On Saturday afternoons admission is free.

Aquí está nuestra representación de un enterramiento vikingo. Hemos optado más por la versión contrastada por la arqueología que por la versión romántica. 

Una oportunidad para disfrutar también para hacer algunos paisajes interesantes. Esperamos que os gusten.

REVIEW – PLAYMOBIL DRAGONS 2017 (II)

Ya están aquí. Ya sabemos la pinta definitiva que tendrán las cajas de la licencia de Playmobil para la película “Como entrenar a tu dragón”. Tenéis una entrada en WARHORSE MINIATURES ya, pero también queremos hacer un pequeño repaso.

Nuestra opinión: esperábamos más, pero estamos satisfechos. Cada pieza nueva que nos interesa es un regalo que nos hace Playmobil, y nos da la posibilidad de crear nuevos personajes.

No sabemos precios, posiblemente sean caros. Creemos que tendrán muy buena acogida por parte de los niños y eso nos asegura que habrá muchas piezas rondando por ahí. Suponemos que pasará igual que con los Super4.  

Bueno, en general creo que nos aportan pequeñas piezas para nuestras personalizaciones muy interesantes. Hasta los cascos bien empleados o modificados pueden funcionar. Los pelos… las barbas y algunas piezas sueltas, nos vienen todas bien.

No podremos hacer nada con el barco. Está oportunidad se merecía algo mejor que fusilar el barco de los dragones chinos….

Los dragones nos encantan, son estupendos y encajarán fenomenal en nuestro mundo fantástico.

De nuevo, un año con piezas nuevas para disfrutar de nuestras aventuras, que mejorarán nuestras figuras personalizadas y que mantendrán nuestro interés en la marca. Nuestra enhorabuena.

They are already here. We already know the definitive look that the boxes of the license of Playmobil will have for the film "How to train your dragon". You have an entry in WARHORSEMINIATURES already, but we want to do a little review.

Our opinion: we expected more, but we are satisfied. Each new piece that interests us is a gift that Playmobil makes to us, and it let us the ability to create new characters.

We do not know the prices, they may be expensive. We believe that they will be very well received by the children and that assures us that there will be many pieces hanging around. We assume it will happen just the same like with the Super4 series.

Well, I think they bring us many small pieces for very interesting customizations. Even well worn or modified helmets can work. The hairs ... the beards and some loose parts, we love them.

Do not they look alike, Mike?

We can not do anything with the boat. This opportunity deserved something better than copying the Chinese dragons ...

We love the dragons, they are great and will fit perfectly in our fantastic world.

Again one more year with new pieces to enjoy our adventures, that will improve our customized figures and keep our interest on the brand. Congratulations.

PLAYMOBIL CUSTOM – THE TOWERS OF BOIS-MAURY (II)

Teníamos pendiente este reto y no hemos querido perder la oportunidad de seguir experimentando con nuestra tercera generación de torsos personalizados para nuestras figuras. Bueno, poco hay que decir, si os gustan es que hemos acertado. También queremos contaros que hemos conseguido  poder empezar a mezclar las piezas aplicando colores bastante parecidos a los originales de Playmobil.

We had this challenge pending and we did not want to miss the opportunity to continue experimenting with our third generation of personalized torsos for our figures. Well, little has to be said, if you like it, we are in the right way. We also want to tell you that we have been able to start mixing the pieces applying colors quite similar to those of Playmobil.
